As the privileged son of a wealthy patriarch, Kyle, portrayed by Jeremy Sumpter, has lived a life marked by indulgence and entitlement. However, his world is turned upside down when he crosses paths with Amy, played by Phoebe Tonkin, at a high-society party. The two share an instant connection that leads to a night filled with reckless decisions. Following a tragic car crash that leaves Amy fighting for her life, Kyle’s father bails him out of jail using his powerful influence but insists that his son must face a harsh reality check. Consequently, Kyle finds himself sent off to a remote island camp in the UK, a place populated by other affluent teens who have also strayed off course.

At first, Kyle is resistant to his new environment and is horrified to discover that Amy is among the camp’s attendees. Despite his initial reluctance, a budding friendship develops between them, and they start to find their way back to redemption. Just as their relationship begins to flourish, an unexpected crisis strikes when three mercenaries invade the camp, mercilessly slaughtering counselors and guard personnel, and taking the wealthy teens hostage. The terrorists demand an exorbitant ransom of one billion dollars from their affluent families.

During the chaos, Kyle manages to escape and spends a harrowing night hiding in an abandoned car, overwhelmed by feelings of anxiety and guilt. As dawn breaks, he resolves to take action, determined to confront the mercenaries and rescue his friends. His journey is perilous, leading him across a precarious rope bridge where he faces one of the armed terrorists. In a desperate fight for survival, Kyle shakes the bridge, resulting in both of them tumbling into the river below.

In a fierce struggle, Kyle manages to overpower his assailant, sending the terrorist plummeting to his death in the shallow water. With his adversary vanquished, Kyle returns to the shore, more determined than ever to free his fellow captives. Under the cover of night, he stealthily navigates past the mercenaries’ defenses and liberates the other teens, providing them with makeshift weapons. They venture into the wilderness, splitting into smaller groups to evade their pursuers.

Meanwhile, as Keiko (no actor name provided) battles her inner demons while navigating through thick foliage, she succumbs to a desperate need to break through her physical limits. This leads her to inflict a wound on her own thigh, keeping her pain hidden as her companions seek refuge in the woods. The following morning, mercenary Rachel (no actor name provided) tracks down the group but unexpectedly falls victim to a booby trap that punctures her leg. In a show of unforeseen cruelty, Kyle and his friends choose to leave her behind.

Their escape is disrupted when they encounter Amy again, whose distress is evident. When Kyle asks her what’s wrong, she reveals Keiko’s hidden injury. Their subsequent discovery of Keiko’s lifeless body sends shockwaves through the group, plunging them into grief.

Keiko’s boyfriend, in a spiral of despair, refuses to accept her death and rallies the group to embark on a quest for vengeance. When they return to the scene of tragedy, emotions are raw as they witness her boyfriend mourning over her body. Then, Kyle seizes the moment to settle the score, racing towards Rachel’s hideout to enact his revenge.

However, Rachel proves elusive, ambushing Kyle before he can act. She takes control of his bow and arrows, subduing him with rubber cuffs while preparing to make off with him. Just then, Amy intervenes, and during their intense confrontation, Rachel snaps Amy’s arm, bone fracturing through the skin. Summoning adrenaline and determination, Amy retaliates with a striking blow to Rachel’s neck, effectively putting an end to the mercenary’s reign of terror.

In the wake of the struggle, Kyle tends to Amy’s injury, and their long-awaited emotions culminate in a heartfelt kiss. Renewed and united, they rejoin their friends, but their brief moment of peace is shattered by Danny, who has found Rachel’s lifeless body and now hunts them in a fury. He confronts them, rifle in hand, but they quickly devise a plan to outsmart him, surrounding and disarming him. Despite being outgunned, Danny remains defiant, demanding their surrender. However, the teens cleverly create a distraction, enabling James to fire an arrow into Danny’s neck, incapacitating the mercenary.

As the scene unfolds, the parents are in a makeshift command center, grappling with a harrowing choice—comply with the kidnappers’ demands or risk everything in a bid to rescue their children. Just as hopelessness sets in, a surprising video call from a government agent, secretly contacted by some parents, offers a glimmer of hope. This agent assures that a daring rescue mission will ensue, but Mr. Hartmann, Kyle’s father, dismisses the notion of waiting for “bad news.” He decides to take action and commandeers a helicopter to search for his son, joined by Jonathan Tilton-Scofield, another concerned parent.

As Kyle and the others continue to evade capture, they unknowingly claim Danny’s rifle for their own, only to have the mercenary leader, Speckc, discover the change in their dynamics and quickly end Danny’s life with a mercy shot. Seeking refuge in an abandoned building, the teens regroup and consider their next steps. One suggests eliminating the last mercenary using the seized rifle, but Amy staunchly opposes the idea, emphasizing that their actions should remain grounded in self-defense. Kyle counters that it’s a choice they must think through carefully. Ultimately, he leads them to capture Speckc rather than kill him, strategically planning their next move.

As Speckc’s machinations begin to unravel, he captures one of the teens, forcing them both to seek refuge by the river, inadvertently prompting the remaining hostages to reveal themselves. With precision, one of the teens manages to shoot Speckc in the leg with an arrow just as he attempts to return fire. In an unexpected twist of fate, Kyle tackles him, leading to a fierce confrontation that ends with Kyle bludgeoning Speckc with a rock, causing him to tumble over a waterfall, resulting in a notoriously gruesome finish to his ruthless ambitions.

In the aftermath, authorities arrive to tend to the injured youths, marking the reunion of Kyle with his father, Bobby Hartmann. The moment is beautifully emotional, bringing comfort to both. Jonathan also arrives, revealing his link to Amy’s father who expresses immediate concern for her safety. As the dust settles, Amy discovers a satellite cellphone belonging to Speckc, leading her to uncover a series of cryptic calls.

As the parents gather, recounting their harrowing ordeal, Mr. Hartmann struggles to fathom how one individual could orchestrate such a complex kidnapping. Jonathan’s mention of the lack of surviving mercenaries deepens the tension when his second cellphone starts ringing. Amy’s inquiry into why he doesn’t answer sets off alarm bells, prompting her to voice suspicions about the seven mysterious calls from Speckc’s device.

Realizing he’s been found out, Jonathan tries to deny his involvement, but Mr. Hartmann swiftly delivers a devastating blow, lamenting the loss of innocent lives. Despite Jonathan’s claims of innocence, he’s escorted away by authorities as Kyle offers support to Amy. The scene is rounded out with Mr. Hartmann watching the newfound bond and bravery displayed by his son, showcasing a resilience that has been firmly instilled within him.
