Seema, played by Taapsee Pannu, is a spirited young woman residing in Mumbai with her father, a dedicated military officer portrayed by Anupam Kher. Deeply invested in her future, he has arranged her marriage to military officers on five separate occasions, yet Seema has managed to dodge these unions each time. As her father sets up a sixth potential match, she bravely chooses to flee to Goa to stay with her uncle, who happens to be her father’s younger brother.
In Goa, we meet Siddharth Kashyap, portrayed by Ali Zafar, along with his friends Jai, played by Siddharth, and Omi, portrayed by Divyendu Sharma. The trio lives in a shared apartment, managed by their landlady Miss Josephine, acted by Lilette Dubey. Often frequenting a café owned by the charming Joseph Furtado, portrayed by Rishi Kapoor, the three are in debt to both Joseph and Miss Josephine due to their reckless financial habits.
One day, Omi notices Seema taking a stroll with her dog Aryabhatta, and he is instantly captivated. He eagerly shares this with Jai, and both concoct plans to impress her. Their antics lead them to break into Seema’s house, with Omi attempting to woo her through poetry. In a humorous turn of events, Seema mistakenly assumes that Omi is a dog trainer and invites him into her bedroom. In a comical yet chaotic moment, Omi finds himself rummaging through her things as Seema prepares her dog, ultimately fleeing in panic after a mishap with the canine, spinning a wild tale to his friends about a romantic encounter.
Jai, fueled by jealousy, decides to make his own move on Seema, pretending to be a well-known filmmaker. However, she soon calls upon her grandmother, leading to a rather dramatic exit for Jai. Meanwhile, Siddharth remains disinterested in the drama. Fate plays a hand when he unexpectedly crosses paths with Seema, unaware of her history with his friends. Their lunch meeting sparks a real connection, and Seema asks him out. They enjoy a budding romance, but soon Jai and Omi, feeling betrayed, warn Siddharth against her.
Despite Sid’s attempts to impress Seema and maintain their budding relationship, jealousy brews among the friends. Moments of comedy ensue as Jai and Omi desperately plot to keep the two apart, even as Josephine and Joseph start developing feelings of their own amidst the chaos.
Eventually, their shenanigans lead to the destruction of Sid and Seema’s relationship, leaving Sid heartbroken. In a misguided panic, Omi and Jai mistakenly believe that Sid is in grave danger. In a misguided attempt to make amends, they hatch a convoluted plan involving Seema’s kidnapping, leading to a series of comedic events culminating in their reconciled relationship.
As Seema’s uncle dreams of her marrying a civilian contrary to her father’s wishes, the stage is set for a resolution. In a clever twist, Sid suggests that military officers are once civilians too, successfully bridging the familial divide. The film concludes with both Seema and Siddharth looking forward to a future together, cementing their bond against the odds they’ve faced.
