What city do Mick and Sue navigate life together in?

Plot Summary

Two years have passed since Mick Dundee (Russell Crowe) and Susan “Sue” Charlton (Lily Taylor) first set out on their whirlwind adventure together in New York City. As they navigate the ups and downs of life as a power couple, Mick’s unapologetic country charm often finds itself at odds with the fast-paced city lifestyle. Despite this, Sue’s writing career has catapulted him to fame, and he’s even landed a gig working for Leroy Brown (a mild-mannered stationery salesman trying to live up to his self-conceived “bad guy in the streets” image), allowing him to indulge in his old ways - like blast fishing in Manhattan’s waters.

Meanwhile, Sue’s past comes back to haunt her when her ex-husband Bob sends her photographs of a gruesome murder committed by Colombian cartel leader Luis Rico. As Rico and his brother Miguel dispatch Bob with ruthless efficiency, they also send the incriminating pictures to Sue, knowing it will put her - and ultimately Mick - in their crosshairs.

When Rico’s henchmen descend upon New York City to retrieve the evidence, they take Sue hostage, prompting Mick to turn to Leroy for help. In a clever move, Leroy enlists the services of a local street gang, who create a diversion by causing chaos at the perimeter of the cartel’s hideout. This allows Mick to spring into action and rescue Sue, leading Rico to go underground to avoid capture.

As tensions escalate, Mick decides to take Sue to Australia, where they can lay low on familiar ground. In Walkabout Creek, they’re welcomed back with open arms by old friends, who introduce them to the vast expanse of Belonga Mick, Mick’s personal land and gold mine. But Rico and his men are hot on their heels, hiring local Aboriginal trackers to help them track down their quarry.

In a surprising twist, the trackers abandon Rico when they learn that Mick is involved - a testament to the deep respect with which the Aboriginal community holds this rugged individualist. When Rico takes Mick’s friend Walter as a hostage, Mick must use his cunning and resourcefulness to outsmart the cartel and rescue his friend. He then leads them on a merry chase through the Australian Outback, using his knowledge of the land and his Aboriginal friends to whittle down their numbers one by one.

As the stakes grow higher, Mick finds himself face-to-face with Rico’s brother Miguel, leaving little room for error as he tries to protect Sue, his friends, and his way of life. With his back against the wall, Mick must draw on all his skills and experience to outwit his foes and emerge victorious in this high-stakes battle.

In a calculated move, Rico ignites a devastating bushfire, intending to outmaneuver his adversary Mick and corner him into submission. However, Mick proves resourceful, recapturing the initiative by apprehending Rico and cleverly switching clothes with him to set a trap for Miguel. Meanwhile, Sue, Walter, and Miguel join forces from a distance, mistakenly targeting their enemies with gunfire. In the chaos that ensues, Walter’s aim finds its mark on Mick, while Miguel falls victim to Sue’s bullet. As Rico plummets down an escarpment, his lifeless body becomes another casualty of the brutal battle. The firefight eventually subsides, and Sue discovers the truth about Rico’s demise when one of the aborigines reveals the clothing switch. With this newfound understanding, Sue’s relief is palpable upon learning that Walter’s shot has only wounded Mick, prompting her to throw herself into an emotional reunion with him. As they embrace, Mick asks if she’s ready to leave the treacherous terrain behind and return home; Sue’s response is a heartfelt declaration: “I am home.”
