Who is the main character, a disgraced YouTube personality in Deadstream?

Plot Summary

The film revolves around Shawn (played by actor name), a disgraced YouTube personality whose reckless stunts and claims to “conquer his fears” have been met with controversy. His online reputation in shambles, Shawn is desperate to salvage what’s left of his popularity and retain the sole sponsorship that now hangs precariously in the balance. In a last-ditch effort, he decides to livestream himself spending an entire night within the foreboding walls of Death Manor, a supposedly haunted abode where multiple mysterious deaths have occurred.

As part of the deal with his sponsor, Shawn is contractually obligated to remain in the house until the stream’s conclusion, or risk forfeiting the sponsorship altogether. As he sets up his equipment and begins to narrate the dark history of Death Manor, Shawn can’t help but feel a sense of unease creeping over him. The once-wealthy Mormon heiress Mildred Pratt, whose tragic life was marked by failed poetry and unrequited love, is said to haunt these halls, seeking a family she could never have in life.

Throughout the livestream, Shawn periodically opens the chat window to engage with his viewers, who offer their thoughts on the eerie atmosphere and various supernatural occurrences. As he begins to explore the house, Shawn discovers a strange symbol etched into one of the walls, which he hastily removes before destroying it in a state of panic.

As night wears on, Shawn attempts to provoke the spirits through a séance, but his efforts are met with unsettling noises that send him fleeing for cover. It is then that he encounters Chrissy (played by actor name), an overzealous fan who has traveled from afar to meet her idol. Reluctant to share the spotlight, Shawn begrudgingly allows Chrissy to join him in his investigation of the house, and together they stumble upon Mildred’s long-forgotten poetry book.

Shawn dismisses the poems as subpar, citing their lack of rhyme as a significant flaw. Undeterred, Chrissy convinces Shawn to participate in a spirit board session, during which they attempt to communicate with the restless spirit of Mildred Pratt. As the night wears on and the atmosphere grows increasingly tense, it becomes clear that Death Manor holds secrets and terrors beyond anything Shawn could have ever imagined.

As Chrissy’s relentless attempts to spook Shawn ultimately prove futile, he suddenly finds himself recalling a crucial detail - the door to the Manor was locked, implying that Chrissy had been waiting patiently for him. With this revelation, Shawn accuses her of being a stalker and demands she leave, only to have her turn on him with a vicious bite to his neck. In self-defense, he stabs her in the neck, believing he has dispatched her permanently. However, upon surveying the area, he discovers that Chrissy’s body has vanished into thin air.

Shawn’s investigation leads him to re-examine the grate where he had discarded his key, only to find a box containing a severed finger and a photograph that shatters his perception of reality: Chrissy is actually Mildred Pratt. For viewers well-versed in the occult, this discovery takes on added significance, as it becomes clear that the hamsa symbol he destroyed earlier was a protection against evil, while the Latin phrase he recited was a soul offering used by Mildred to bind the souls of previous occupants to herself.

As Shawn is tormented by the grotesque apparitions of the Manor’s former inhabitants, he makes multiple attempts to escape the house, ultimately resorting to a desperate leap from the second-floor window. Upon landing safely outside, he rediscovers his spark plugs but soon finds himself facing off against more ghoulish entities.

Following a harrowing encounter with one of these creatures, which he repels using an improvised potato gun, Shawn’s iPad is left in tatters, severing his connection to his online audience and leaving him resigned to his fate. Seeking solace in his car, Shawn turns to Mildred’s book of poetry for comfort, only to uncover the incantation that had granted her satanic powers.

As he reads through the poems, Shawn begins to piece together the truth: Mildred never sought a family, but rather an audience for her dark and twisted verse. This realization inspires him to complete the ritual necessary to circumvent her power and send her back to hell, using his own online following as the focal point of the ceremony.

With newfound determination, Shawn returns to the Manor, armed with a deeper understanding of Mildred’s motivations and a resolve to challenge her once and for all. Fighting his way back to the saferoom, he retrieves a spare iPad and deciphers the incantation, finally ready to set up the ritual that will banish Mildred from the mortal realm.

As he prepares for the ceremony, Shawn takes a moment to reflect on his past mistakes, apologizing awkwardly for his thoughtless antics, racism, and poor apology. Vowing to be better in the future, he sets aside these personal demons and focuses on the task at hand: sending Mildred back to hell where she belongs.

As the intense battle with Mildred reaches its climax, Shawn seizes the opportunity to recite the ancient incantation, only to be met with utter failure. It isn’t until he gazes down at her severed finger that a crucial piece of information clicks into place: the ritual demands a “sacrifice of flesh” in order to unlock its true power. With a sense of grim determination, Shawn makes the ultimate sacrifice by amputating one of his own fingers, effectively completing the dark and foreboding rite. As the ritual reaches its culmination, Mildred is inexplicably drawn into the shadows, dragged down to a blood-soaked basement by some unseen force that defies explanation.

In the aftermath of this twisted triumph, Shawn can’t help but express his gratitude to the countless viewers who’ve been tuning in to witness his harrowing ordeal. His massive and still-growing audience has seemingly given him the strength to survive the night, their collective presence fueling his unyielding spirit. However, as he exits the macabre scene, he’s suddenly surrounded by a horde of Mildred’s undead followers, their very existence a testament to her unholy influence. The livestream that had captured every gruesome moment of this descent into madness is abruptly cut off, plunging the world outside into darkness and uncertainty.
