In Los Angeles, 2018, a crew of robbers led by Ray Merrimen launches a fierce armed attack, successfully hijacking an armored truck. The chaos begins when a security guard unintentionally triggers a shootout by dropping his coffee. Amid the gunfire, police arrive and engage the robbers. Although Merrimen and his gang manage to flee with the now-empty truck, he chastizes Bo ‘Bosco’ Ostroman for taking a life during the heist.

The next morning, Detective Nick “Big Nick” O’Brien (Gerard Butler) arrives at the crime scene, as he has been trailing Merrimen and his associates for quite some time. Puzzled about the robbery of an empty armored truck, Nick suspects a local bartender, Donnie (O’Shea Jackson Jr.), is involved. When he finds Donnie at a bar, he resorts to kidnapping him for answers.

In a flashback, Merrimen reveals his elaborate plan to steal $30 million in old bills from the Federal Reserve by having Donnie gain access dressed as a Chinese food deliveryman. He cleverly stashes a bag of food in the bank’s bathroom ceiling for the big heist day. Meanwhile, at home, Nick’s wife Debbie (Dawn Olivieri) discovers his infidelity and storms out, taking their daughters and filing for divorce.

At a restaurant, Nick crosses paths with Donnie and exchanges pleasantries while Merrimen’s crew looms nearby. During an interrogation back at their hideout, Merrimen’s crew member, Levi (50 Cent), attempts to intimidate Donnie for information on the robbery, but Donnie maintains his innocence. Later, Levi reinforces his authority by threatening Donnie’s daughter’s date.

Nick, spiraling into a drunken stupor, crashes a gathering at his sister-in-law’s house, where he signs divorce papers in a fit of rage. After causing a scene with Debbie’s new boyfriend, he seeks refuge in a strip club where he unwittingly becomes a target for Merrimen’s plans when a stripper is hired to surveil him.

As the day of the robbery unfolds, Merrimen and his crew storm a bank, taking hostages and demanding $10 million and a helicopter within the hour. Outside, Nick’s team is on high alert, while Merrimen resorts to brutal tactics, including the execution of a hostage to solidify his grip on the situation. The robbers quickly execute their plans, breaking open the vault and escaping before Nick’s forces arrive.

Merrimen has cleverly hidden Donnie within a cash dolly delivered to the Federal Reserve, where Donnie attempts to collect the old bills meant for destruction. He swiftly retrieves Merrimen’s bag of food, but an unsuspecting bank employee, realizing something is amiss, attempts to alert security—only to discover Donnie has already vanished.

The cash, along with Donnie, is whisked away in a waste management truck. Nick’s team catches up with Donnie, but their efforts lead to a violent confrontation where Merrimen’s crew faces a tragic end. While Bosco and Levi are killed, Merrimen manages to escape, but not without a final showdown. Nick pursues him, leading to a tense confrontation where, despite being wounded, Merrimen holds a defunct gun to Nick, forcing his hand. As Merrimen dies, he assures Nick that he kept his word.

Upon examining Merrimen’s van, Nick finds it filled with shredded paper—and discovers that Donnie has escaped. His subsequent encounter at Donnie’s bar leads to startling revelations about the heist’s true mastermind: Donnie himself. Time passes, and in a twist, Donnie is spotted in London, serving drinks and surrounded by his crew, reveling in their success as they remain blissfully unaware of the impending consequences of their actions.
