Plot Summary

As Bill (actor name) steps out of the prison gates, he’s met by the solemn presence of his son Karl and wife Maggie back at their Brighton home, Down Terrace. With Maggie’s watchful eye, Bill sets his sights on rooting out the rat that’s been secretly undermining their criminal empire, sparking a complex web of recrimination, betrayal, and murder.

Meanwhile, Karl becomes increasingly agitated and discomfited by the dysfunction within his own family. When Valda, Karl’s girlfriend, arrives with a noticeable baby bump, he hosts a dinner to introduce her to his parents, but things quickly turn sour. As tensions escalate, Karl announces plans to marry Valda, only for his parents to vehemently disapprove and demand a paternity test.

Bill’s trusted employee Garvey confides in Karl that Valda had previously dated Garvey’s brother, sending Karl into a rage. In a fit of fury, Karl brutally murders Garvey, enlisting the help of his uncle Eric to secretly bury the body. As concern grows about Garvey’s unexplained disappearance and rumors swirl around Pringle, a notorious hitman with ties to a previous attempt on Garvey’s life, Bill instructs Eric to take out Pringle and his mother, leaving their three-year-old son orphaned.

The escalating violence catches the attention of Jony, a ruthless London gangster, who warns Bill that Karl and his family are now at risk due to their brazen lack of subtlety. Maggie promises to rein in Bill’s actions, but Eric’s own loyalty is called into question when Maggie poisons him, suspecting he might be secretly working against the family.

As Karl becomes increasingly paranoid, he begins to suspect that his parents have been collaborating with the police behind closed doors. This suspicion is fueled by a deathbed confession from their lawyer, Berman. Eventually, Valda persuades Karl to take drastic action, leading him to cold-bloodedly kill his father and lure his mother to an isolated farm, where she meets a gruesome end at Valda’s hands.
