Gitti and Chris, a young couple from Germany, embark on a vacation to Chris’s family villa in the stunning land of Sardinia. Their contrasting personalities become apparent, with Gitti’s spontaneous and lighthearted approach to life clashing against Chris’s more introverted nature. He prefers the quietude of reading indoors, often avoiding their neighbor, while Gitti seeks the thrill of social interaction, which can sometimes frustrate Chris. In an exchange about their relationship, Chris attempts to share his dissatisfaction regarding his life and career, but Gitti interrupts him, suggesting he is overthinking everything and should consider settling down with her. This suggestion leaves Chris feeling both insulted and upset, leading to an admission from both of them about their mutual fears of not being the right partner.

The situation escalates when Chris encounters Hans, an old classmate who has found great success in life. Attempting to avoid the confrontation, Chris’s efforts fail as Hans invites them to a barbecue at his and his wife Sana’s home—Sana being a successful fashion designer. Gitti, having received another invitation from a bohemian couple she recently befriended, is reluctant to accept Hans’s invitation, but Chris overrides her decision. At the gathering, although Hans and Sana initially appear to be the perfect couple, they soon reveal their obnoxious and vapid nature. Tension surfaces when it is revealed that Chris declined an architecture prize due to concerns about his design being merged with another architect. This hidden truth, initially withheld from Gitti, creates further frustration.

The next day, during a long hiking excursion, Chris’s mood shifts dramatically as he becomes hyper-critical of Gitti, leading to them getting lost. Afterward, he decides to go out for drinks with Hans, leaving Gitti feeling abandoned and pleading with him not to leave her alone overnight. Chris dismisses her concerns and stays out late, returning only at dawn. The day after, he reveals his interest in pursuing an architecture job on the island. While Chris meets with potential clients, Gitti tries to impress him by adopting a new look and choosing a dress she once deemed too simplistic. However, she faces embarrassment when she encounters the bohemian couple again, who feel hurt by her snub.

During their dinner with Hans and Sana, the atmosphere becomes increasingly strained. Gitti attempts to tone down her appearance, but Chris’s efforts to impress the guests result in him acting strangely, including mocking his mother’s interests for their amusement. The night takes a chaotic turn as Hans playfully throws Sana into the pool, prompting Chris to do the same to Gitti, despite her protests. Distressed by the events, Gitti seeks solace, asking Sana to create an excuse for them to leave. Chris, believing he is mending their relationship, confesses his love and initiates intimacy, though Gitti’s indifference speaks volumes.

The following day, Chris overhears Gitti planning her exit from his life, leading to a confrontation where she admits to falling out of love with him, calling him a weakling. Chris retaliates with harsh words, labeling her a naive hypocrite, and demands she leave. In a dramatic turn of events while Gitti packs her belongings, she theatrically plays dead on the floor. Initially taken aback, Chris is eventually touched and decides to drop his defenses, making light-hearted gestures that spark laughter between them. This moment fosters a real connection as they finally look into each other’s eyes, hinting at a possibility for reconciliation.
