As Miami lawyer Kathryn “Kate” McQuean navigates a contentious divorce proceeding, she takes an unorthodox step by seeking to seize a 157-foot freighter docked off Florida’s coast as collateral for unpaid alimony. Little does Kate know that this impromptu move has set her on a collision course with a nefarious underworld of international money launderers and former KGB operatives.

The freighter, owned by criminal mastermind Emilio Juantorena, serves as the hub for Ilya Pavel Kazak, a cunning former KGB agent turned money laundering expert. Kazak’s operation has attracted a motley crew of rogue KGB members, including Stefan, Leonide “Hacker” Volkov, Navigator, Rosa, and Zhukov. Their sinister scheme involves physically cutting into undersea internet cables to eavesdrop on US communication traffic.

Kate’s life takes a dramatic turn when she’s unintentionally caught in the crossfire of a stray bullet, prompting Miami detective Max Kirkpatrick to take notice. As Kate’s apartment is subsequently blown up by Kazak’s henchmen, leaving her miraculously alive and plummeting into the water below, Max finds himself duty-bound to protect this unwitting pawn in his own investigation.

As Kate and Max converge on a hotel room to regroup, they’re unaware that Volkov has tracked their pizza order via credit card, allowing Rosa and her cohorts to infiltrate the premises. A tense showdown ensues, culminating in Max’s colleagues falling victim to the hit squad, while Max manages to take down the assailants - with the exception of Rosa, who slips away unnoticed.
