Plot Summary

As Wen Jiajia’s pregnancy progresses, she finds herself trapped in a complicated web of relationships - her boyfriend, a corrupt businessman already bound to another, and her unborn child, whose very existence is threatened by the legal hurdles of giving birth in China. Desperate for a solution, she flees to Seattle, where the city’s international airport becomes a gateway to a new chapter in her life. It is here that she meets Frank, a taxi driver with a secret past as a doctor, who is struggling to reconnect with his estranged daughter and ex-wife, a high-powered executive with plans to immigrate to the United States.

As Jiajia navigates the unfamiliar terrain of Seattle’s maternity center, she begins to form bonds with the women around her, including Frank’s daughter. Meanwhile, Frank’s own story resonates deeply with her, as she recalls her father’s brush with mortality and recognizes the renowned cardiologist in his former self. As they grow closer, Jiajia finds herself drawn to Frank’s warm, compassionate nature, which serves as a balm to her own emotional wounds.

However, just as their connection starts to blossom, Jiajia’s boyfriend’s legal woes come to an end, and he dispatches his driver to reclaim the mother and child. With her newfound independence and a growing sense of self-reliance, Jiajia breaks free from her entitled partner and launches a cooking website to support herself and her son. Her ex, meanwhile, is forced to confront the consequences of his actions, as his wife reclaims her place by his side.

Two years pass, during which Frank rebuilds his life and reclaims his medical practice. It is only when he stands atop the iconic Empire State Building with his daughter that he feels compelled to reconnect with Jiajia - a gesture that culminates in a serendipitous reunion on the same rooftop, where they join hands and embark on a new chapter in their lives together.
