As Shae forsakes an evening out with her friend Karen to embark on a weekend getaway to the Hamptons with her boyfriend Terry, who is grappling with the difficulties surrounding his separation from his wife, neither of them is prepared for the unforeseen rupture that lies ahead. Their idyllic escape takes a devastating turn when Terry unexpectedly shows up at Shae’s door, delivering news that shatters the very foundation of their relationship: he and his wife have chosen to rekindle their romance for the sake of their young daughter. The gravity of this revelation weighs heavily on Shae as she reconciles the fleeting nature of their love.

The following day, while at a local market, Shae is met with a harsh reminder of Terry’s return to domestic life when she spots him walking hand-in-hand with his wife and daughter. Overcome with emotional turmoil, she shadows them back to their home, only to have Terry reject her when she attempts to reach out. Later that evening, seeking refuge at the bar where she works, she finds solace in the company of Lu, her empathetic colleague, as she pours out her feelings regarding the breakup.

As they venture out into the city, bolstered by shared sorrows and laughter, a chance encounter with Simon, Eric, and Duncan propels Shae into a night filled with exhilaration and revelry. The group’s vibrancy is infectious, leading to an impromptu celebration at Eric and Duncan’s apartment. As the night of drinks and dancing wanes, Shae experiences an impulsive kiss with Simon, a moment that temporarily distracts her from her heartache. However, as she gazes into the bathroom mirror, the reality of her choices begins to loom large.

Upon returning home in a taxi with Simon, whose affections she rebuffs, an alarming turn of events occurs when he assaults her at her doorstep. Simon’s violent grip and forced kiss leave Shae reeling, prompting her to flee towards the safety of her apartment. In the aftermath of this harrowing experience, Shae feels increasingly isolated, unable to confide in her loved ones—Karen and her mother—due to their busy lives. In a moment of desperation, she reaches out to Terry, but misinterpretation of her distress leads to further complications when he misreads her as being romantic.

The next day, Shae and Lu pay a visit to the local police station to file a report. Unfortunately, their encounter with Officer Daniels proves unwelcoming, as he coldly hands Shae a stack of paperwork and tells them to wait. While Shae files her report with an unyielding detective, Lu, capturing Daniels’ attention, playfully suggests they go to a hotel, culminating in a shocking twist when Lu takes matters into her own hands, resulting in the officer’s unexpected demise.

As night falls, Lu encourages Shae to confront their assailant, leading them back to Eric and Duncan’s apartment. Using coercive tactics, they extract Simon’s address, igniting Lu’s fury when Duncan makes a flippant remark. In a fit of rage, Lu fatally shoots Duncan. After obtaining the whereabouts they seek, the duo pursues Simon to his secluded workshop, mercilessly overpowering him and indulging in a gruesome punishment that culminates in his demise.

Their thirst for vengeance doesn’t end there; they set their sights on Terry, ambushing him at gunpoint. This tense encounter leads them to an isolated area in the woods, where Lu finishes the job, leaving Shae both relieved and troubled. As they retreat to a nearby motel that night, an emotional exchange unfolds, revealing the stark contrast between their missions: Shae finds no comfort in the bloodshed, while Lu savors the thrill of violence.

Days later, Shae is surprisingly invited by her classmate Tyler to a fair, where she temporarily forgets her troubles, only to return home and find Lu waiting, upset at her tardiness. A Halloween party with Tyler turns disastrous when Lu, hidden in the shadows, takes advantage of the situation and brutally ends Tyler’s life. In the aftermath, Shae discovers the horror left behind, only for Lu to emerge and reveal her motives—asserting that her actions were for Shae’s protection.

In a horrific twist of fate, love turns to betrayal as Shae retaliates violently, wielding Lu’s sword in a climactic moment of revenge. As Shae struggles with the aftermath, returning to her job at the bar, she remains haunted by her experiences. In a poignant finale, Lu’s ghost appears, reminding Shae that certain scars never truly heal, leaving an eternal mark on her psyche.
