As the clock strikes eight years since his father's downfall, street fighter Chandramohan Manohar Sharma, better known as Charlie (Shah Rukh Khan), has been harboring a deep-seated desire for retribution against Charan Grover (Jackie Shroff). The catalyst for this vendetta lies in the events that transpired eight years prior, when Grover's cunning manipulation led to Manohar being wrongfully accused of theft and subsequently imprisoned. Charlie's quest for vengeance takes on a new dimension with the impending arrival of the Mughal Diamonds at the prestigious Atlantis Palm hotel on Christmas Eve. These precious gemstones will be stored in Grover's Shalimar vault, meticulously crafted by Manohar himself, for a fleeting 24-hour period. Seizing this opportunity, Charlie conceives a plan to pilfer the diamonds and frame Grover for the heist, necessitating the assembly of a motley crew.

Charlie's first recruit is Jagmohan Prakash, or Jag (Sonu Sood), an individual with a profound hearing deficiency who becomes incensed when anyone besmirches his mother. Next in line is Tehntroman Irani, affectionately known as Tammy (Boman Irani), an overweight jogger plagued by epilepsy and a genius safe-cracker. This unlikely hero's connection to Manohar dates back to their time together at the factory where Tammy worked as a test engineer. His desire for revenge stems from Grover's destruction of Manohar's life, and he sees this mission as a means to exact retribution. Finally, Charlie enlists the expertise of Rohan Singh (Vivaan Shah), a young hacker capable of breaching Shalimar's computerized security system. This newcomer shares an additional connection with Charlie, being Jag's nephew.

As the team delves deeper into their plan, they discover that the main vault comprises a sophisticated bio-metric lock, accessible only to one individual at any given time: Vicky Grover, Charan's son. To circumvent this obstacle, they recruit Nandu (Nandan) Bhide, played by Abhishek Bachchan, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Grover. Nandu agrees to participate in the operation, driven by his pressing need for funds to finance his mother's life-saving tumor surgery. Charlie aptly describes his team as a formidable ensemble: "Ek all time Bewda" (Nandu), "Ek Sanki Jadeya" (Tammy), "Ek Bhari Banduk" (Jag), and "Ek Badmaash Bachcha" (Rohan).

As the team ventures to a warehouse once used as their workshop for a rehearsal, a revelation unfolds: Tammy's profound adoration for the Shalimar vault is evident in his sole knowledge of its combination. However, it becomes apparent that this isn't just any vault - it's a secure chamber with an ever-changing laser shield code, making it virtually impenetrable. The team soon discovers a crucial weakness: the real Shalimar safe lies hidden beneath the Atlantis hotel, connected to room 9C through an underground sewer system. However, access to this room is strictly limited to one team from the World Dance Championship (WDC), which coincidentally takes place at the Atlantis hotel on Christmas Eve - the exact same time the diamonds are stored in the vault. Unfortunately for the team, their lack of dancing prowess renders them unable to participate in the competition.

As the true story begins to unravel, it becomes clear that Manohar was once an engineer specializing in vault security. His collaboration with Charan Grover, a dealer in African diamonds, led to the construction of an impenetrable vault. Grover, however, had other plans and drugged Manohar before using his fingerprints to steal the diamonds worth 100 Crores, blaming the theft on Manohar by exploiting the bio-metric security system's record of his prints.

Desperate to secure their spot in the WDC, they enlist the help of Mohini Joshi (Deepika Padukone), a charismatic Marathi bar dancer who becomes their instructor. Mohini is driven by her desire to open her own dance school and has a soft spot for English-speaking individuals, making her an ideal fit for Charlie's team. As they work together, Charlie and Mohini develop romantic feelings.

Their journey takes them through the first round of the competition, where they employ blackmail as leverage against the judges, revealing their secret homosexual relationship. They eventually win the right to represent Team India in the WDC by manipulating the vote-counting machine. While many, including Indians, condemn their lack of dancing talent, Charlie and his team (excluding the oblivious Mohini) are singularly focused on executing the heist.

As Team India navigates the cutthroat world of international competitions, they face a particularly hostile reception from their rivals, none more so than Grover, who views them as a team of has-beens. However, in a stunning display of chivalry, Charlie's selfless act of saving a falling child from Team Korea instantly earns him widespread acclaim and admiration from the audience, as well as the respect of his fellow competitors. The revelation that the diamonds will arrive on New Year's Eve rather than Christmas proves to be a significant setback for their plans, but it's not until Team India secures a wild card spot in the finals due to Charlie's heroics that they begin to realize the magnitude of their newfound fame.

As Mohini becomes privy to the heartbreaking story behind Charlie's motivations, she confronts him about his true intentions and is shocked to learn the devastating truth: Manohar, the team's original leader, is not in jail as everyone believed, but rather deceased, having taken his own life. Charlie had kept this secret hidden from the others to prevent demoralization, but it only serves to strengthen their resolve for revenge. With Mohini reluctantly joining the fold, the team begins to make preparations for their final heist.

The night of the finale arrives, and Team India springs into action. Mohini lures Vicky into an elevator, allowing Nandu and Jag to sedate him long enough for them to take his place. As Tammy expertly cracks the vault combination, despite suffering a sudden onset of epilepsy, they manage to open it just in time.

As everything seems to be going according to plan, Charlie and Tammy stumble upon an unexpected twist: a glass safe hidden within the main vault, containing the coveted diamonds. Vicky awakens from his temporary slumber, but Charlie's quick thinking allows him to crack the password ("Charlie"), securing their victory. With their mission accomplished, the team boards a waiting boat, only for Mohini to express her desire to remain behind and protect India's honor in the competition. Rohan ultimately decides to join her, leading to a heated debate among the others about what course of action they should take next.

As Grover's world crumbles around him, he's left reeling from the shocking discovery that the precious diamonds have been pilfered - and his own unwitting complicity in the crime is laid bare for all to see. The incriminating evidence points squarely at Team India, and Grover's keen mind quickly zeroes in on the perpetrators. Meanwhile, the group's performance at the competition is a dazzling spectacle, with Mohini shining bright alongside Jag, Tammy, Nandu, and Rohan. Just as it seems like all hope is lost, Charlie makes his unexpected entrance, injecting new life into the team and ultimately securing their victory.

But just as the dust settles on this dramatic turn of events, Grover and Vicky find themselves in handcuffs, their reputations irreparably tarnished by suspicion. It's a bitter pill to swallow, especially given the sudden revelation that Charlie is none other than Manohar's son - a twist that leaves everyone stunned.

As the authorities whisk Grover and Vicky away, Team India seizes the opportunity to make a break for it, with Charlie expertly camouflaging the stolen diamonds as ice cubes in his refreshing beverage. However, their plan is foiled when the security guard unwittingly disposes of the fake diamonds - a move that seems like a cruel joke at this point.

The flight that follows is a tense, high-stakes affair, but Charlie's quick thinking ultimately prevails. In a stunning reversal, he reveals that the diamonds on the trophy are, in fact, the real Shalimar Diamonds all along, and the ones in his drink were just cleverly crafted fakes.

In the end, Mohini opens her own dance school, a testament to her perseverance and passion. And as if the universe had conspired to bring them together, Charlie proposes to her with a radiant diamond ring - a symbol of their love and commitment that shines bright against the backdrop of this thrilling adventure.
