Let It Be Morning tells the poignant tale of Sami, portrayed by Alex Bakri, a Palestinian-born Israeli citizen residing in Jerusalem. When he receives an invitation to his brother’s wedding, he returns to the Arab village of his youth, the very place he left behind in search of better opportunities. However, the joyous celebration takes a dark turn when, shortly after the wedding festivities conclude, the Israeli government imposes a military blockade on Sami’s hometown without any clear rationale.
As the power is shut off and villagers find themselves trapped by an Israeli roadblock, chaos ensues. With food and water supplies dwindling, Sami suddenly finds himself cut off from the outside world, unable to resume his work in Jerusalem. This unforeseen predicament forces him to confront profound questions regarding his identity. As secrets long buried start to surface, Sami witnesses the disintegration of everything he holds dear.
Written and directed by the acclaimed Israeli filmmaker Eran Kolirin (known for The Band’s Visit), this film draws inspiration from the internationally bestselling novel by Palestinian author Sayed Kashua.
Let It Be Morning encapsulates the essence of a siege—both externally imposed and self-inflicted. The narrative centers on a man trapped by his emotional barriers, illustrating how these walls begin to crumble when a physical barrier envelops his village. With heart-wrenching themes woven throughout, the film illuminates the struggle of individuals facing both personal and communal crises.
