Check out what happened in Micki + Maude!

Rob Salinger (Dudley Moore), a harried television reporter, finds himself entangled in a complicated web of love, deception, and parenthood. Happily married to Micki (Ann Reinking), a driven lawyer vying for a judgeship, Rob yearns for fatherhood, but his wife's reluctance stems from a previous miscarriage and her career ambitions. Their differing views on starting a family lead Rob to an unexpected infatuation with Maude Guillory (Amy Irving), a talented young cellist he meets on assignment.

As their relationship blossoms, Rob must navigate the moral implications of hiding the truth from Micki, while Maude's pregnancy prompts them to make plans for marriage. However, just as Rob prepares to confess his affair and seek a divorce, Micki drops a bombshell: she's also expecting. Her initial plan to terminate the pregnancy was motivated by a desire to protect her career and well-being, but she ultimately wants to build a family with Rob.

Rob becomes embroiled in a web of deceit, leading a double life as he juggles his daytime marriage to Micki and his nighttime relationship with Maude. With his boss and best friend Leo (Richard Mulligan) providing cover, Rob's secret is safe until the fates conspire against him: both women go into labor simultaneously at the same hospital.

As the truth begins to unravel, the two women form an unlikely friendship, but their discovery of Rob's dishonesty leads them to banish him from their lives and those of their children. Defeated, Rob observes his loved ones from afar, eventually finding a path toward redemption as he reconciles with both Micki and Maude.

The film concludes with the women thriving in their respective careers: Micki presiding over a courtroom as a respected judge, while Maude performs with a symphony orchestra. The camera pans out to reveal Rob, now an older man, surrounded by his eight children – two from each of the two families he loves – playing and laughing together in a sun-drenched park.
