Plot Summary

In the ancient city of Mohenjo Daro, 2016 B.C., a young man named Sarman (Hrithik Roshan) arrives in town with a mysterious past and an innate sense of justice. Orphaned at a tender age, Sarman has been driven by a burning desire to uncover the truth about his parents’ untimely demise. The enigmatic uncle who raised him gifts him an amulet inscribed with the image of a majestic unicorn, a symbol that resonates deeply within Sarman’s soul. This same emblem serves as the emblem of Mohenjo Daro, a city ruled by the ruthless Maham (Kabir Bedi) and his son Moonja (Arunoday Singh).

As Sarman navigates the bustling streets, he discovers that Maham seeks to impose an oppressive tax on the farmers, threatening their very existence. With a natural flair for leadership, Sarman rallies the farmers against this tyranny, earning him the respect of the people and the ire of Maham. In the midst of this turmoil, Sarman crosses paths with Chaani (Pooja Hegde), the radiant daughter of Mohenjo Daro’s head priest, who finds herself trapped in a forced engagement to the despicable Moonja.

As Sarman’s star continues to rise, he and Chaani find themselves bound together by a shared love and a deepening sense of purpose. However, Maham is quick to recognize the threat that Sarman poses to his reign and proposes a treacherous challenge: the Bakar-Zokhar (Casey Frank, Michael Homik). With the stakes higher than ever, Sarman accepts the challenge, offering Chaani’s freedom as the reward for victory.

As Sarman delves deeper into the mysteries of Mohenjo Daro, he uncovers a dark history that has shaped the city’s destiny. He learns how Maham was once expelled from Harappa for his illicit trade with the Sumerians and how he rose to power in Mohenjo Daro through deceit and manipulation. The wise Senate Chief Srujan (Sharad Kelkar), who opposed Maham’s plans, was framed and imprisoned for supposedly hoarding gold.

In a stunning revelation, Sarman discovers that he is, in fact, the son of the venerated Srujan, whose life was brutally cut short by Maham. With this newfound knowledge, Sarman is driven to purge the evil from Mohenjo Daro, restoring justice and honor to his father’s memory. The stage is set for an epic struggle between good and evil, with Sarman at the forefront of a quest to reclaim his city’s soul.

As the dust settles in the arena, Sarman stands victorious over the lifeless bodies of Bakar and Zokhar, two fearsome Tajik mountain cannibals who had terrorized the city of Mohenjo Daro. The people’s fervor for their champion reaches new heights as they rally behind him, their spirits buoyed by his bravery. Meanwhile, the treacherous Maham seethes with rage, her malevolent plans foiled yet again. With a calculated ferocity, she goads Moonja into attacking Chaani and the wise priest, but Sarman intervenes, striking down Moonja in a fierce display of strength and justice.

In the aftermath, Chaani reveals the shocking truth about Maham’s scheme to exploit the wealth of the Sindhu River for personal gain and secretly arm Mohenjo Daro with weapons from the West. The revelation sparks outrage among the city’s leaders, who now turn against their corrupt leader. In a surprising twist, Sarman emerges as the people’s champion, but he refuses to accept the mantle of chief, instead advocating for a democratic government that truly represents the will of the people.

As Mohenjo Daro teeters on the brink of disaster, Sarman becomes aware of an impending catastrophe - the dam holding back the mighty Sindhu River is about to burst, threatening to engulf the city. With remarkable foresight and leadership, he rallies the people to construct a makeshift floating bridge by lashing together boats, enabling them to evacuate the doomed city and make their way to safety on the opposite bank of the river.

As the waters rise and the dam finally gives way, Maham - chained in the city square as punishment for her crimes - meets a watery grave. The once-magnificent city of Mohenjo Daro lies in ruins, its survivors forced to begin anew on the banks of another mighty river, which Sarman renames Ganga in honor of their resilience and determination.
