Check out what happened in Over the Hedge!

In a desolate Indiana picnic area, a cunning raccoon named RJ (RJ) embarks on a brazen heist, attempting to pilfer a bounty of provisions from a hibernating bear named Vincent after his initial efforts at exploiting a vending machine come up short. However, the scheme swiftly spirals out of control when Vincent awakens from his slumber, triggered by the commotion, and RJ's ill-gotten gains are reduced to nothing more than a pile of destroyed goods. As the consequences of his actions unfold, Vincent comes perilously close to exacting a grisly revenge upon RJ, who narrowly escapes with his life. In a desperate bid to forestall his own demise, RJ proposes to replenish Vincent's food supply in time for the upcoming full moon, now just a week away. Reluctantly, Vincent accepts this olive branch, vowing to make an example of RJ should he fail to deliver on his promise.

As the first day of spring dawns, a family of woodland creatures, led by a wise and cautious turtle named Verne (Verne), stir from their hibernation to find that their once-lush forest has been transformed into a sprawling housing development. The only remaining patch of wilderness is now isolated from the rest by an imposing hedge. RJ, ever the opportunist, takes advantage of this disorienting backdrop to introduce himself to Verne and his family, touting the benefits of scavenging off the humans for sustenance. Despite Verne's reservations, RJ successfully convinces the other animals to join him in a campaign of culinary thievery, unaware that he intends to use their plundered spoils to satiate Vincent's hunger. Meanwhile, Gladys Sharp, a formidable force as the neighborhood Home Owners Association president, takes notice of the burgeoning animal problem and hires the services of exterminator Dwayne LaFontant (Dwayne LaFontant).

As RJ endeavors to dissuade Verne from returning the pilfered provisions, fearing that this would only hasten their downfall at the hands of Dwayne, the food is inadvertently destroyed during a high-speed chase from an overexcited Rottweiler named Nugent. Blinded by his own culpability, RJ blames Verne for the debacle while the latter valiantly attempts to reason with his family about the perils of following RJ's reckless lead. Ultimately, the family abandons Verne in favor of RJ, unwittingly setting themselves up for a series of calamitous events that will test their resolve and survival instincts in equal measure.

As the full moon casts its silvery glow on the night sky, RJ bears witness to Dwayne's clandestine operation in Gladys' yard, where the cunning raccoon rigs a veritable arsenal of animal traps, including the infamous Depelter Turbo - a contraption so illicit it defies federal regulations. Meanwhile, Verne reconciles with RJ and the other woodland creatures, their bond strengthened by shared experiences and mutual understanding.

However, RJ's curiosity gets the better of him as he discovers Gladys' stash of provisions, which prompts an opportunistic raid on her property. Hammy, the quick-witted squirrel, disables the Depelter Turbo while Stella, the charming skunk, assumes the guise of a feline to pilfer Tiger's collar, granting access to the pet door. The animals stockpile yet another bounty of sustenance, but RJ's fixation on procuring a coveted can of chips - as per Vincent's request - threatens to compromise their mission.

In a moment of vulnerability, RJ reveals his true intentions just as Gladys descends from her domicile, only to flee with the spoils as Dwayne captures Verne and the other animals. As RJ conveys the food to Vincent, he becomes disheartened by the sight of Dwayne's van and makes a bold attempt to liberate his friends by orchestrating a vehicular collision that leaves the villain unconscious.

The consequences of RJ's actions are swift and severe: an enraged Vincent launches a counterattack, prompting RJ to send the wagon careening into Gladys' home. As Verne and the other animals regroup, they find themselves beset on both flanks by Vincent, Gladys, and Dwayne - a formidable trio.

Hammy, fueled by an energy drink, revives the Depelter Turbo, which ultimately ensnares their adversaries. RJ, donning Verne's protective shell, uses his cunning to outmaneuver Vincent, sending him tumbling over the hedge in pursuit of a snack. As the dust settles, Gladys is apprehended for her possession of the illicit device, while Vincent and company are carted away by animal control.

In the aftermath, RJ finds himself reuniting with the woodland creatures - including Tiger, who remains smitten with Stella despite learning of her true nature. As Verne frets about their lack of preparedness for winter, Hammy reveals that he has unearthed the stash of nuts they had stored from the previous year, ensuring a bountiful harvest to sustain them through the lean months ahead.
