In the heartland of South Dakota, a quiet Indian teenager named Sunny (Sunny) finds herself caught in a whirlwind of temptation and deception when her free-spirited friend Lupe persuades her to host an impromptu party. As Sunny's mother embarks on a business trip, leaving her daughter in charge, she feels the weight of responsibility but also sees an opportunity to capture the attention of her long-held crush, Hunter (Hunter). The evening takes a turn when Sunny's hopes are dashed as she witnesses Hunter departing with the more popular Emma, leading her to seek solace in the arms of Kyle, a devout Christian with a quirky charm. Both parties quickly realize their mistake, and the consequences of their actions begin to unfold.

The next morning, Sunny confides in Lupe that she has lost her virginity, but refuses to reveal the identity of her partner, leaving Lupe under the assumption that Hunter is the culprit. In the bathroom, Sunny's horror reaches new heights as she discovers the remnants of Kyle's condom, sparking fears of unintended pregnancy. With this revelation, Sunny and Lupe embark on a mission to acquire emergency contraception at their local pharmacy. However, they are met with refusal, prompting them to seek out a more reliable option: Rapid City's Planned Parenthood, accessible via Sunny's mother's vehicle. As they set off on their journey, the gravity of their situation becomes increasingly apparent, and the duo must navigate the complexities of their actions and the unpredictable consequences that follow.

As the sun dips below the horizon, Sunny and Lupe find themselves at a crossroads, both literally and figuratively. After seeking guidance from a benevolent convenience store clerk, they embark on a journey that takes them to the unlikeliest of places: a playground-turned-drug den. There, they encounter a shady dealer who offers them a dubious deal - fake IDs in exchange for a compromising favor. But Sunny's quick thinking and Lupe's resourcefulness allow them to escape with their dignity intact and a tantalizing package labeled "birth control" (though its true nature remains unclear).

As the night wears on, Lupe becomes fixated on meeting Logan, an online acquaintance turned potential paramour. Meanwhile, Sunny finds herself unexpectedly drawn to Hunter and his crew at the bowling alley. The two girls part ways, with Lupe heading off to meet Logan in a secluded spot (and ending up in bed with him) while Sunny is whisked away by Hunter for a nightcap at a nearby diner.

However, their evening of adventure and exploration takes a turn when they reunite and discover that Logan has pilfered Sunny's car - or rather, Lupe left it with her. As the sisters' frustration boils over, Sunny resorts to desperate measures, swallowing an unmarked pill (later revealed to be Amphetamine) and lashing out at Lupe.

In a moment of clarity, Lupe realizes they can track down the missing vehicle using a clever app, only to find it parked at a raucous house party. A confrontation with Logan's bandmate, Xander, follows, with the inebriated musician attempting to attack the girls before they make their escape. As Sunny narrowly avoids running over Xander, Lupe finds herself facing off against Logan once more - this time, as the two share a tender moment and part ways.

Throughout the night, the sisters' bond is tested by the ups and downs of their experiences, but ultimately, it's strengthened by their trust in each other.

As they settle back into their vehicle, a chastened Sunny turns the tables on Lupe, demanding to know why she had kept her true sexual identity hidden. Lupe's admission of fear - specifically, that she was worried their friendship would be irreparably damaged by the revelation - is met with swift dismissal by Sunny, who insists such concerns are unfounded. The tense atmosphere is momentarily disrupted when Lupe receives a phone call from Kyle, which reveals the true nature of Sunny's recent sexual encounter. Sunny's explanation, that she fabricated her story to cope with the perception that Lupe was more sexually experienced, is countered by Lupe's assertion that this perceived disparity is simply a facade. The two friends ultimately agree to abandon their habit of dishonesty and instead foster an environment of openness and trust.

Their subsequent arrival at Rapid City's Planned Parenthood clinic finds them met with a devastating discovery: the facility has been permanently shuttered. Sunny's emotional breakdown in response is a poignant reminder of her vulnerability, as she acknowledges her need for her mother's guidance. The duo returns home, where they each confront their respective parents. Lupe is taken aback by her father's unexpected display of concern, which prompts her to ask if he would ever abandon her. His reaffirmation of his unconditional love and acceptance leads to a heartwarming embrace between the two.

Meanwhile, Sunny's mother initially greets her with anger, but her mood softens as Sunny pours out her frustration about feeling pressured to be perfect all the time. This emotional release allows the two to reconnect, and Sunny ultimately confesses that she requires access to the morning after pill; her mother swiftly acquiesces, demonstrating a deep commitment to supporting her daughter's well-being.
