What is the main profession of Patrick 'Pat' Clifton?

Plot Summary

In the quaint village of Greendale, nestled in the north of England, Patrick “Pat” Clifton, affectionately known as “Postman Pat”, has been faithfully delivering letters and spreading joy to the community for years. His long-overdue honeymoon with his loving wife Sara is finally within reach - a romantic getaway to Italy that he’s been dreaming about for what feels like an eternity. However, just as Pat is on the cusp of making this dream a reality, his plans are derailed by the harsh realities of his job at the Special Delivery Service (SDS). The newly appointed boss, Edwin Carbunkle, has axed all bonuses, leaving Pat’s financial prospects in shambles.

As Pat returns home to break the news to Sara, he’s met with a surprise that will change everything. His young son Julian is glued to the television, watching an episode of “You’re the One”, a popular talent show hosted by the charismatic Simon Cowbell. It just so happens that the next auditions are headed straight for Greendale, and the grand prize is a trip to Italy - a holiday Pat had almost given up on. But that’s not all; the winner will also receive a recording contract, an opportunity that could catapult Pat’s life in a direction he never thought possible.

With his eyes fixed on the prize, Pat decides to take a chance and audition for the show. To everyone’s surprise, his hidden talent for singing shines through, and he finds himself advancing to the finale against formidable opponent Josh. However, Pat soon realizes that his manager, Wilf, is more concerned with securing a victory at any cost than with Pat’s genuine passion for singing.

Meanwhile, the higher-ups at SDS - CEO Mr. Brown and Edwin Carbunkle himself - have been keeping a close eye on Pat’s progress on “You’re the One”. They’re so impressed that they want to use his newfound fame to launch a publicity campaign featuring their own television series, with Pat as the star. And as if that weren’t enough, Pat will be replaced by a robotic doppelganger called the “Patbot 3000” while he’s away competing on the show - a digital duplicate designed to take over his postal duties, along with its counterpart, the “Jessbot”.

As the days pass without their beloved Pat and Jess, the residents of Greendale begin to notice a peculiar development: the Patbot, tasked with delivering rounds in Pat’s stead, is behaving erratically. The townspeople grow increasingly uneasy, and Sara and Julian can’t help but wonder if Pat has somehow changed for the worse. Meanwhile, Ben Taylor, the erstwhile manager at the School of Dance Studies (SDS), finds himself summarily fired by Edwin Carbunkle, his suspicions fueled by the notion that Pat no longer wants him around - oblivious to the fact that Pat is, in reality, a robot.

Wilf, ever the schemer, attempts to thwart Pat’s activities, but his efforts only serve to backfire spectacularly. As Pat’s loved ones become increasingly concerned about his behavior, he himself feels an overwhelming sense of guilt for having entered the competition in the first place. His desperate attempts to confide in his wife about the true reasons behind his decision ultimately fail, and he begins to fear that he may have irreparably damaged his relationships with those around him.

It isn’t until Pat’s departure for the final round that Ben and Jess stumble upon a shocking discovery: there appears to be more than one Pat. As Edwin Carbunkle’s sinister intentions are finally exposed, it becomes clear that this is no ordinary contest - it’s all part of a diabolical plan to create an army of robotic duplicates designed to take over the world.

Enlightened by this revelation, Sara springs into action, informing the entire town of Carbunkle’s true motives and reassuring them that deep down, Pat has remained unchanged. United in their determination to thwart Carbunkle’s scheme, the people of Greendale band together to support Pat on his journey, while Jess - who has secretly stowed away on one of the SDS helicopter replicas - manages to make his way to Pat’s performance, where he helps his friend escape after being locked away by a rogue Patbot and Carbunkle.

As Pat is revealed to be nothing more than a pawn in Carbunkle’s game, he finds himself trapped in a dressing room, forced to confront the true nature of his supposed fame. It becomes clear that Carbunkle’s ultimate goal was not to create a champion, but to replace him with an army of Patbots designed to win over the hearts and minds of the people. With Jess by his side, Pat must use all his wits to outsmart the Patbots and the Jessbot, ultimately making his way inside the theater where he will face off against Carbunkle in a battle for control.

As the performance unfolds, a Patbot takes center stage in place of its creator, with the audience none the wiser. However, Wilf’s keen eye for deception allows him to spot the fake performer and, armed with his trusty magnet, he reveals the truth behind the mechanical mask. The real Pat bursts onto the scene, delivering an impassioned speech that emphasizes the importance of relationships and the need to prioritize those we truly care about. But just as all seems well, Carbunkle’s sinister plan is set in motion, unleashing a trio of Patbots hell-bent on eliminating Pat, Simon, and Brown.

In a daring move, Josh seizes control of Carbunkle’s phone, using it to shut down the mechanical minions before they can strike. Little do Pat and his friends know, their loved ones from Greendale are mere moments away from arriving on the scene, adding an extra layer of chaos to the already unpredictable situation.

Following Brown’s bold decision to fire Carbunkle and have him taken into custody, order is restored to the performance. As Pat expresses his true motivations for participating in the competition - a desire to win flight tickets for his dream honeymoon with Sara - little does he realize that his wife has been listening in, her ears open to every word.

Sara’s sudden call-out of Pat’s name sends shockwaves through the audience, as it becomes clear that she is not only aware of Carbunkle’s scheme but also of Pat’s genuine intentions. With Sara’s forgiveness firmly in place, Pat decides to modify his act, and the result is a joyous, crowd-pleasing performance that brings everyone together.

As the curtain closes on this heartwarming display, Pat and Brown join forces to belt out a rousing rendition of “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours),” with Josh, Wilf, and the people of Greendale lending their voices to the chorus. Sara takes her place alongside Pat, and together they claim the grand prize - a romantic getaway to Italy. In a generous gesture, they opt to pass on the recording contract to Josh, bringing a beaming smile to Wilf’s face as all is forgiven.
