Plot Summary

As the night of Hamilton High School’s 1957 prom drew to a close, Lisa and Brad slipped away from the revelry to indulge in a moment of intimacy. But their desires were brutally interrupted by the sudden appearance of candles on the hood of Brad’s car, courtesy of Father Jonas, a fanatical religious zealot driven by a twisted sense of morality. As Lisa’s screams were silenced by the cold steel of his metal crucifix, Brad met a similar fate, and the couple’s ill-fated tryst was reduced to ashes. The carnage complete, Father Jonas revealed the root of his madness - the traumatic sexual abuse he had suffered at the hands of church officials. His words were laced with a grotesque sense of self-justification as he displayed the stigmata that had become an outward manifestation of his inner torment.

Three decades would pass before the next chapter in Father Jonas’s reign of terror unfolded. In 1991, Father Colin was tasked by the now-departed Father Jaeger with monitoring the reclusive Jonas, who had been imprisoned in a drug-induced coma at St. George Church for thirty-three years. As Colin struggled to come to terms with his new responsibilities, he began to neglect the medication that kept Jonas sedated, allowing the madman to slowly regain his faculties. The consequences of this act of compassion were devastating, as Jonas escaped and claimed Colin’s life before fleeing to the abandoned St. Basil Seminary, a place where dark memories awaited.

The summer home at St. Basil had once been a sanctuary for young minds, but its walls now held a sinister allure. A group of four friends - Mark, Meagan, Laura, and Jeff - arrived to celebrate their graduation in private, unaware that they were about to become pawns in Jonas’s twisted game. As they partied into the night, they discovered that their summer retreat had been stripped bare of its modern conveniences, leaving only the echoes of forgotten memories. It was then that Father Jonas began to stalk his prey, his metal crucifix at the ready as he claimed another victim - Jonathan, Mark’s younger brother, who had innocently followed the group into the heart of darkness.

As Meagan (still reeling from her wine cellar mishap) tends to her wounds with the first-aid kit, she’s suddenly confronted with a sinister phone call from Jonas. Mark is nowhere to be found, leaving Meagan vulnerable and alone. Jonas takes advantage of this opportunity, entering the house through his old lair and committing a gruesome act - killing Laura and moving her lifeless body. The scene shifts as Mark and Meagan frantically search for Laura, only to stumble upon Jonas’s lair where they find what appears to be the missing woman, only to realize it’s actually Jonas donning Laura’s scalp. With cold calculation, he dispatches Jeff by crushing his skull with bare hands.

As Meagan and Mark venture outside, they’re met with a horrific sight - Laura and Jeff’s bodies crucified and ablaze. The atmosphere is heavy with dread as Meagan tries to call the authorities while Mark prepares himself for battle. Jonas reappears, prompting Mark to arm himself and send Meagan fleeing for her life. The roof becomes a battleground when Jonas stabs Mark in the foot, causing him to tumble to the ground below. With his life slipping away, Mark succumbs to Jonas’s crucifix, leaving Meagan to face her tormentor alone.

Meagan finds temporary respite by incapacitating Jonas with bug spray but soon realizes she must take matters into her own hands. Arming herself with a gun and scavenging for bullets, Meagan makes her way to the woodshed where she finally manages to dispatch Jonas with a well-placed shot. Believing him defeated, Meagan begins praying for forgiveness only to be blindsided by Jonas’s unexpected resurgence. As the barn erupts into flames courtesy of an aspergillum imbued with fire instead of holy water, Meagan seizes a shovel and beats Jonas mercilessly before locking herself safely inside the shed, leaving Jonas to burn and ultimately meet his demise in a fiery explosion.

The story comes full circle as Meagan awakens in an ambulance, her fate uncertain. Meanwhile, Jonas’s charred remains are loaded into another vehicle manned by Cardinal Turint and his followers. In a chilling twist, Jonas’s eyes flicker open in the ambulance, mirroring Meagan’s simultaneous awakening.
