Through a fascinating mix of candid interviews and archival footage, Putin’s Kiss explores the remarkable journey of Masha Drokova, a bright young woman who ascended within the ranks of Russia’s enigmatic youth organization, Nashi. Captivated by this movement, which prides itself on being democratic, anti-fascist, and anti-‘oligarchic-capitalist’, she immersed herself in its inner workings from ages 16 to 19, gradually gaining authority and influence. Ultimately, she blossomed into the charming host of a popular, state-sponsored television show aimed at engaging Russia’s youth.

Drokova’s fervent admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who appears as himself, is vividly captured in a memorable scene where she exuberantly expresses her affection during a medal presentation ceremony, a moment that lends the film its title. As the story progresses, Drokova fosters close relationships with several journalists, many holding deep reservations about the ruling party of Russia.
