Rich in Love (Ricos de Amor) 2020

As the scion of the Tomato King “O Rei do Tomate”, Teodoro (Ernani Moraes) has long basked in the luxuries of his privileged upbringing, with a life that revolves around wealth, lavish estates, and an endless supply of beautiful women. But just as he’s on the cusp of inheriting his father’s sprawling plantations and industrial empire, a seismic shift occurs when Teodoro’s path intersects with Paula (Giovanna Lancellotti), a bright and fiercely independent medical student.

As Teodoro’s 28th birthday party approaches, his father reveals the surprise gift: a job, which will catapult him into the world of corporate responsibility. The festivities take on an air of urgency as the traditional Festa do Tomate, featuring a special performance by DJ Alok, becomes one of Teodoro’s last opportunities to savor the tranquility of his hometown before life takes a drastic turn.

It is amidst this electronic and country music extravaganza that the lives of Teodoro and Paula become inextricably linked. With his sights set on winning her heart and proving himself to both his father and himself, Teodoro embarks on a series of deceitful maneuvers, concealing his aristocratic lineage and presenting himself as a humble everyman. This initial fabrication sets the stage for a tangled web of lies that will ensnare him in the vibrant cityscape of Rio de Janeiro.

As he navigates this romantic and chaotic adventure, Teodoro is aided by his loyal sidekick, Igor (Jaffar Bambirra), an agricultural worker who shares his friend’s passion for growth. Together they face a cast of colorful characters, including Alana (Fernanda Paes Leme), a sharp-tongued human resources consultant from Trancoso; the formidable Monique (Lellê); and Paula’s close-knit circle of friends, Raíssa and Kátia.
