“Sleep’walk’er n. Nomadic shapeshifting creatures with both human and feline ancestry. These entities are especially vulnerable to the deadly scratch of a cat, as they feed off the lifeforce of innocent virginal women, potentially being the inspiration behind the vampire mythos.” – Chillicoathe Encyclopedia of Arcane Knowledge, 1st edition, 1884.

In the quaint town of Travis, Indiana, ever the innocent and pure-hearted Tanya Robertson, portrayed by Mädchen Amick, finds herself working at the local theater. Little does she know that her life is about to take a dark turn with the arrival of a mysterious new student named Charles Brady, acted by Brian Krause, who just moved from the elusive Paradise Falls, Ohio. Their paths cross during a screening of two haunting films, They Bite and Scream Dream, sparking an undeniable connection between the two. Intrigued by each other’s charm, they carve out a plan to meet again for a photo session at Homeland Cemetery.

However, Charles’s day takes a dramatic twist as he is halted by his English teacher, Mr. Fallows, played by Glenn Shalix. In a shocking moment of violence, Charles, threatened by Mr. Fallows’s blackmail regarding the legitimacy of his transcripts, responds with ferocity that leaves the teacher dead. As chaos unfolds, Charles races away, fueling his thrill-seeking nature as he attempts to outrun Sheriff Andy Simpson, portrayed by Dan Martin. In an eerie yet baffling transformation, Charles’s face morphs, revealing his true essence as a sleepwalker, which momentarily confuses the sheriff. In a desperate bid to escape, Charles pulls off an unusual trick, rendering his car invisible to those who chase him, though not to a curious cat named Clovis.

As the plot thickens, a mysterious swarm of cats begins to gather in the Brady yard, signaling a foreboding past that Charles is all too familiar with. His mother, played by Alice Krige, grows increasingly anxious about her sustenance, hinting that Charles’s commitments might have darker implications. Meanwhile, excitement builds for Tanya as she eagerly prepares for her date, even sneaking a picnic lunch and a bottle of wine past her unsuspecting parents.

At the cemetery, their date takes a sinister turn as Charles’s intentions shift—he attempts to drain Tanya’s breath, a moment that escalates chaos as she retaliates with her camera. The encounter draws in Sheriff Andy, only for him to suffer a tremendous fate at the hands of Charles as the night spirals further out of control. With Charles eventually taking the upper hand, the once serene night transforms into a battle for survival. Tanya musters every ounce of courage and resourcefulness, leading to a heart-pounding series of events where both human and supernatural forces collide in an astonishing display of horror and tension.

In a series of wildly unpredictable confrontations, Tanya’s home becomes the stage for a horrifying showdown against Charles’s mother. As she breaks into their home, the stakes rise as Mary Brady engages in a frenetic clash with both Tanya and the police, showcasing her chaotic rage and violent tendencies. When Charles’s fate hangs in the balance, the lines between life and death blur in moments that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

Tensions burst forth with the arrival of Captain Ira Soames, played by Ron Perlman, leading to a crescendo of panic and ferocity as Mary attempts to abduct and manipulate Tanya’s fate. The ensuing fray draws the attention of local law enforcement, culminating in a stunning battle where cats mysteriously intercede, serving as strange allies against Mary, who transforms under incredible duress.

As the climax unfolds, Tanya’s resilience is put to the test as she fights for both her life and her very breath. The unfolding horror reaches its peak when the ancient myths of the sleepwalker challenge not only the characters but the very fabric of reality itself. Ultimately, the haunting final moments evoke a chilling reminder as a consumed mother screams, “You killed my only son, my only son,” resonating with sorrow and loss while engulfed in cat chaos.

As the smoke clears, both Tanya and Clovis share a quiet yet profound moment, embracing the flickering echoes of what once was—an epilogue that leaves the lingering scent of danger and mystery in the air. It’s a tale woven with the threads of horror, innocence, and the treacherous paths of desire, culminating in a shocking retelling of transformation and survival that will reverberate long after the credits roll.
