Who is the notorious killer in the film Terrifier?

Plot Summary

The curtains draw open on a gruesome tableau as Monica, a television hostess with a penchant for sensationalism, conducts an interview with a woman claiming to be the sole survivor of the infamous Miles County Massacre. As Monica probes the woman’s ordeal, recounting the horrors she endured at the hands of the notorious Art the Clown, the woman matter-of-factly declares that she witnessed her attacker meet his demise - only for the very same figure to suddenly and eerily resurrect himself behind the TV screen. With a maniacal glint in his eye, he sets about destroying the television set, as if erasing the very memory of their encounter.

As Monica’s broadcast reaches its conclusion, she indulges in a smug conversation with her significant other over the phone, dismissing the woman she’s just interviewed and reveling in the prospect of catapulted fame. But her momentary elation is short-lived, as a mysterious caller named Tom disrupts the tranquility, only to be drowned out by Monica’s oblivious chatter. Suddenly, a faint rustling catches her attention - a signal that sets her on a deadly collision course with the very same mutilated interviewee she’d just so callously dismissed. With eyes gouged from their sockets and a maniacal cackle echoing through the air, Monica succumbs to her own brutal fate.

Meanwhile, two carefree young women, Tara and Dawn, stumble out of an evening’s revelry, their senses dulled by excessive intoxication. As they deliberate on whether to grab some grub before hitting the road, they spot Art the Clown lurking in the shadows, his arsenal of crude weapons at the ready. Dawn, ever the provocateur, attempts to flirt shamelessly with the clown, much to Tara’s dismay - a momentary lapse that allows Art to vanish into thin air, leaving only the faintest hint of menace lingering on the breeze.

As Tara and Dawn stepped into the cozy pizza joint, Tara’s attention was divided between perusing through cherished memories on her phone and engaging with the vibrant atmosphere. However, fate had other plans, as her phone’s battery life came to an abrupt end, leaving her without a digital lifeline. Meanwhile, Dawn received a cryptic text message from a mysterious stranger, requesting a meetup at his abode, which she promptly dismissed as a harmless proposition. Just moments later, Art burst into the pizzeria, his face contorted in an unsettling array of grimaces and grins. Tara’s apprehension was palpable, but Dawn took it upon herself to intervene, coaxing Art into a series of awkward selfies that left him bemused.

The pizzeria owner, oblivious to the bizarre scene unfolding before him, approached Art with a friendly inquiry about his dining preferences. However, the clown remained stoic, refusing to engage in conversation even when Dawn shared the staggering success of their impromptu photo shoot – eight likes on social media, no less. Art’s response was to extract a coin from the table and procure a toy ring for Tara from the vending machine. With an air of whimsy, he placed it upon her finger before vanishing into thin air, leaving behind only the faint scent of unease. As if scripted by some malevolent force, the pizzeria owner arrived with their pizza, only to be followed by the embarrassing expulsion of Art for his audacious act of defecation and urination in the bathroom.

Tara’s concerns about the clown’s intentions were tempered by Dawn’s insistence that he was merely a harmless eccentric. However, this notion would soon be shattered as they discovered their car’s tires had been brutally slashed – a sinister act that seemed to bear Art’s signature mark of malevolence. As they awaited rescue from Tara’s sister, they couldn’t shake the feeling that their encounter with the clown had awakened a dark and foreboding presence.

The pizzeria employee, still reeling from his own unsettling experience, finally finished cleaning up the aftermath of Art’s rampage – including the gruesome discovery of his manager’s severed head, grotesquely reanimated as a jack-o-lantern. In a desperate bid to escape, he stumbled upon the phone, only to have his hand chopped in half by the merciless meat cleaver wielded by Art. The man’s screams were drowned out by the sound of his own face being repeatedly stabbed, leaving him a mangled and lifeless corpse.

Meanwhile, Tara and Dawn continued their debate about the clown’s true nature, oblivious to the horrors unfolding mere feet away. When Tara finally relented to her bodily needs, she found herself in a surprisingly well-maintained restroom within Mike’s extermination services, where the friendly pest controller revealed that the building was infested with an uninvited rodent population. Undeterred by the revelation, Tara pressed on, finding solace in the cleansing ritual of urination.

As Dawn settled into the driver’s seat, she tuned into the radio, only to be met with a chilling report about the gruesome murders at the pizzeria – and the suspect description that eerily matched the clown they had encountered earlier. Her mind reeling with the implications, she failed to notice Art slipping unnoticed into her vehicle, his presence marked by an unsettling silence. It was only when he suddenly appeared beside her that Dawn’s screams pierced the night air, signaling the onset of a terror-filled odyssey.

As Mike initiates the arduous process of decontaminating the building, Tara’s attempt to make a hasty exit is thwarted when she stumbles upon an unsettling scene in the basement. There, she encounters a disheveled woman cradling a porcelain doll masquerading as her infant daughter, Emily. The woman’s erratic behavior and misplaced trust lead Tara to fabricate an excuse to extricate herself from the awkward situation.

Tara’s escape is short-lived, however, as Art springs into pursuit, sending her scrambling up a flight of stairs in search of refuge. She seeks temporary solace among the parked vehicles in the building’s lot, but Art’s relentless pursuit soon finds her. A vicious struggle ensues as he attacks Tara with ferocity, leaving her no choice but to defend herself with a scalpel she opportunistically claims from Art’s own grasp. After dispatching her assailant, Tara seizes a nearby metallic shard as a makeshift shield and begins to position herself for future encounters.

Meanwhile, Vicky, Tara’s sister, is oblivious to the chaos unfolding at the building as she tunes into the radio while driving to collect Tara and Dawn. As fate would have it, the broadcast interrupts its usual programming to report on a bizarre clown sighting, an eerie harbinger of the horrors that await her.

Tara’s injured and shaken, but still driven to escape the clutches of danger, she reenters the building with stealth, seeking an alternate exit from the premises. Her progress is impeded by the lingering effects of Art’s sedative, courtesy of a syringe filled with a potent drug. As Mike remains oblivious to her plight, Tara finds herself trapped in a desperate bid for freedom, her options narrowing as the darkness closes in around her.

Tara’s reality is shattered when she awakens in a dingy basement, bound to a chair by duct tape that immobilizes her legs. Art’s menacing presence is amplified as he brandishes a hacksaw, taunting Tara before revealing Dawn’s gruesome fate - suspended upside-down from the ceiling, her lifeless form an eerie testament to Art’s brutality. As Art methodically dismembers Dawn, Tara’s screams of horror are met with calculated indifference. In a stunning display of defiance, Tara manages to break free from her restraints and exacts a measure of revenge by stabbing Art in the back, allowing her to make a daring escape. Hiding behind a wooden post-turned-shield, Tara stalks her stalker, unleashing a flurry of blows that force Art to reveal his true intentions - namely, a gun that he uses to send a hail of bullets whizzing towards Tara’s defenseless body.

Meanwhile, the enigmatic woman from earlier whispers words of reassurance to “Emily”, her ears ringing with the distant echoes of Tara’s anguish. Vicky, oblivious to the carnage unfolding above ground, texts Dawn, expecting a response that never comes. Art seizes this opportunity, donning Dawn’s persona via text message and luring Vicky into a trap. As he strikes a pose beside his victim’s lifeless form, capturing a gruesome selfie for posterity, Tara lies helpless beneath him.

Art’s malevolent presence is compounded as he returns to Tara, riddling her with bullets before Vicky unwittingly complies with the false text message, marching around to the back of the building in search of Dawn and Tara. The crazed woman, still reeling from the horrors she has witnessed, frantically searches for “Emily”, only to realize that she has left her charge unattended downstairs. As Vicky draws closer to the site of the carnage, Mike, the unsuspecting exterminator, is summoned by the crazy woman’s warnings, but his skepticism sends him packing - right into Art’s waiting arms.

As the chaos reaches a fever pitch, the crazy woman becomes increasingly desperate, racing back down to the basement in search of “Emily”, while Vicky approaches the site of the carnage, blissfully unaware of the bloodbath that awaits her.

As Victoria continues her frantic search for Dawn and Tara, a sense of desperation sets in when she stumbles upon Emily, only to find Art eerily rocking the doll as if it were his own child. With an unsettling calmness, he fails to harm her, instead allowing her to envelop him in a maternal embrace. Meanwhile, Mike’s friend Will arrives on the scene, but his attempts to reach Mike are futile. Victoria’s pleas to Dawn go unanswered, and instead she follows the faint sound of ringing phones, leading her to a gruesome discovery - Dawn’s lifeless corpse. Fleeing in terror, Vicky inadvertently stumbles upon a horrific sight: Tara’s mangled remains, with Art lurking nearby, his body grotesquely adorned with the woman’s scalp and chest skin.

The scene shifts as Victoria retreats into a metal wardrobe, seeking refuge from the monstrous Art. She finds temporary solace, but her reprieve is short-lived as Will, the unsuspecting exterminator, stumbles upon the Emily doll, only to meet a gruesome end at Art’s hands - stabbed in the head and decapitated.

Victoria spots Art riding his tricycle around what appears to be the building’s sole exit, attempting to make her escape without drawing attention. However, her plan is foiled when Art restrains her with plastic wrap, suffocating her. A glimmer of hope arises as she spots a nail and strikes back at Art, wounding him before making a desperate bid for freedom.

Mike awakens to the sound of Vicky’s screams, only to find Tara’s lifeless body bearing a chilling message - “Circus.” He rushes to Victoria’s aid, knocking Art unconscious and then calling the authorities on a nearby phone. However, their escape is short-lived as Art regains consciousness, striking Vicky with a crude whip before Mike intervenes once more.

The stakes escalate as Art brutalizes Mike with a gasoline tank, crushing his skull before turning his attention to Victoria. Her desperate struggles culminate in her stabbing Art in the eye and finally escaping into a nearby shed. The police arrive just in time to see Art driving a truck through the shed, colliding with Vicky, but they intervene just as he begins to feast on her face. In a bizarre twist, Art turns his gun on himself, ending his reign of terror.

In the aftermath, Victoria is discovered alive and battered by the authorities, who are left to grapple with the true extent of the carnage Art had unleashed.

In a morbid twist of fate, the coroner’s office becomes a stage for a ghastly resurrection as the lifeless bodies, including Art’s, are wheeled in on gurneys. The doctor, oblivious to the impending horror, begins to unzip the bag containing Art’s corpse. However, this seemingly routine procedure sparks a chain reaction of chaos: the lights in the room begin to dance erratically, like fireflies on a summer night, as Art himself awakens from his grave-like slumber. With an unholy fury, he seizes the coroner and squeezes the life out of them, silencing their screams forever.

As the dust settles, it becomes clear that Vicky’s presence in this morbid scenario is more significant than initially apparent. A full year later, a shocking revelation rocks the foundation of reality: Vicky, once a seemingly ordinary individual, is revealed to be none other than the enigmatic interviewee who captured the nation’s attention with her eerie and inexplicable responses during the film’s opening televised interview. This stunning twist raises more questions about the nature of mortality, identity, and the blurred lines between life and death, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats.
