Rosalind and Will appear to have the perfect life in London, where she shines as a celebrated artist and he embodies the role of a reliable engineer and devoted stepfather to her twin daughters. However, the arrival of their son, Amadeo, disrupts Rosalind’s meticulously organized world, leading to a shocking decision to flee with her children and their young nanny, Candy. Will’s unease grows, particularly when he connects the disappearance to a mysterious suitcase that arrived from France, packed with faded photographic negatives that may hold troubling secrets.

Determined to bring his family back together, Will embarks on a desperate quest across Europe, eventually tracking them down to the cliffside home of Rosalind’s deceased photographer uncle in Normandy. His initial relief, however, transforms into despair as he uncovers the tragedy of Amadeo’s death. Rosalind, reeling from grief and trauma, is unable to recognize him, while the twins speak in riddles, leaving Will feeling isolated and desperate. Faced with an agonizing choice, Will struggles between reporting their heart-wrenching loss and risking accusations of murder against his wife or concealing the truth to safeguard his family’s future. Overwhelmed with disbelief that Rosalind could be responsible, he makes the heart-wrenching decision to bury Amadeo in secrecy and flee to a mountain clinic in Switzerland for Rosalind’s recovery.

In a moment of desperation, Will confides in Vivian, Rosalind’s mother, who reveals unsettling truths about Rosalind’s past, including the trauma of being raped at fourteen. To shield her from public scrutiny, they concoct a cover story involving a car accident, orchestrated by her influential art dealer stepfather, Milton. Although Rosalind returns home, it is Will who struggles to navigate the murky waters of ‘normalcy.’ Haunted by the shadows of their past and the desire for understanding, he ventures through London, driven to uncover the secrets surrounding his wife’s history. His obsession escalates, pushing Rosalind further into the arms of Milton.

As the clock ticks, Will finds Candy and uncovers critical details about that fateful night when their son died. He also unearths the enigmatic figure of Pierre Laurent, who seems to hold the answers to Rosalind’s hidden traumas. In a dramatic confrontation, Will unarmed confronts a wrathful Milton, culminating in a surprising twist where Rosalind takes control of the situation. Ultimately, the family finds their way back to the tranquil beauty of Liguria, Italy, the birthplace of their love story, where they face the question of whether their profound bond can truly withstand the trials they have endured.
