In the midst of the Roaring Twenties, two hapless con artists, Nicky Wilson (played by…), Oscar Sullivan (played by…), stumbled upon a golden opportunity in the form of Fredericka Quintessa “Freddie” Bigard, the enigmatic heiress to a lucrative sanitary napkin empire. Freddie’s affections were deeply rooted in her love for the already married Nicky, but their illicit desires were thwarted by the Mann Act’s prohibition on crossing state lines with an immoral intent. Thus, Nicky hatched a plan of dubious morality: he proposed that Freddie marry Oscar, allowing them to indulge in their clandestine affair while keeping their ill-gotten gains within reach.

Oscar, eager to escape the long arm of the law and the specter of embezzlement charges, saw an opportunity too good to pass up. Though he intended to capitalize on his new marital status once the union was formalized, Freddie’s unsuspecting nature made it seem like a foolproof scheme.
