As the film launches into a visceral, in-medias-res tableau, we find ourselves amidst the disheveled aftermath of Brandy's ordeal - her battered body being carted away in a truck, the sounds of distant screams and cackling laughter lingering in the air. This stark introduction serves as a harbinger of the terrors to come, as we flash back to the days preceding All Hallows' Eve when a quintet of friends from Ohio, including Brandy, her boyfriend Zack, cameraman Jeff, Bobby, and Mikey, embarked on a perilous journey to explore America's most feared haunted attractions. Their mission: to chronicle their experiences and interview the enigmatic actors who populate these realms of terror.

As they set out, the group's initial forays take them to well-known haunts, though their true objective lies in tracking down the notorious Blue Skeleton, a mystical entity rumored to relocate annually and employ an arsenal of unbridled fright. Zack's growing disillusionment with what he perceives as pedestrian scares is matched only by his companions' increasing unease as they begin to unravel the sinister underpinnings of these haunted houses - a world where background checks are an afterthought, disturbed individuals are co-opted for shock value, and real corpses serve as gruesome props. The group's transgressions are rewarded with a sense of malevolent intent from the very staff they're supposed to interview.

Their nocturnal exploits are punctuated by the unsettling appearance of a clown and a young actress from an earlier visit, who seem to be tracking their every move - despite the friends having traveled over a hundred miles. Jeff is subsequently stalked by a menacing figure clad in a bunny costume wielding an axe, only for the would-be predator to reveal his true nature as an actor. Meanwhile, Zack's interactions with other thrill-seekers yield valuable intel: Blue Skeleton has relocated to Louisiana this year, and a local watering hole serves as the hub for acquiring access to its notorious haunts.

Later that night, an uninvited guest breaks into their van, capturing the group in all their vulnerability on camera. The footage is subsequently uploaded to haunted house forums by Bobby, only for Zack to intervene, insisting they keep this development under wraps to prevent the others from losing their nerve. And as if things couldn't get any more unsettling, a cow heart is discovered in their refrigerator, prompting Brandy and Bobby's growing trepidation - an omen that their journey may be drawing to a close, but the true horrors are only just beginning.

As the group settles into the bar, they're suddenly surrounded by a cast of characters who reveal their true intentions - filming a scene without consent. While Brandy steps away to tend to her personal needs, two male actors seize the opportunity to corner her, capturing the tense moment on camera before she escapes and warns her friends. The group springs into action, reclaiming the camera and restoring order. But the night takes a dark turn as they return to their RV to find it besieged by dozens of actors, one of whom cuts the lights, plunging them into darkness. When the lights flicker back to life, the actors vanish, leaving behind only cryptic instructions for the group's next move.

The following morning, the friends arrive at a bustling Halloween festival, where they're met with yet another enigmatic summons from their mysterious connection to Blue Skeleton. Amidst the chaos, Jeff becomes unwittingly separated from the group and finds himself trapped in an alleyway by a trio of costumed assailants - a clown, a young actress, and a man in a bunny suit. As the masked marauders converge on him, they're suddenly whisked away to an unknown location, leaving his friends to frantically try and reach out to him.

Their desperate calls are met with only a cryptic message, leading them to a new location where they're confronted by a menacing bus, its occupants brandishing a text that demands they abandon their RV or risk Jeff's very existence. Zack, ever the pragmatist, reluctantly complies, while his friends are dragged away by a group of attackers, leaving him behind. As the remaining friends are hooded and bound, they're driven off in the bus, oblivious to the horrors that await them.

Meanwhile, Brandy finds herself at a separate location, where she's handed a camera and instructed to capture every terrifying moment on film. Her fellow group members, scattered across their respective rooms, are each subjected to unique terrors - Zack is beaten senseless by an attacker in his darkened chamber, while the others face unspeakable horrors as they're entombed alive in coffins by the Blue Skeleton's minions.
