As Major Ben McBride (Patrick Wayne) embarks on a perilous expedition to the unforgiving Antarctic wilderness, his quest is driven by a sense of duty and loyalty to his long-lost friend Bowen Tyler (Doug McClure). The British naval survey ship, serving as their trusted vessel, navigates through treacherous icy waters to reach the remote island of Caprona. Upon arrival, McBride's party - consisting of paleontologist Norfolk (Thorley Walters), gunner and mechanic Hogan (Shane Rimmer), and photographer Lady Charlotte 'Charlie' Cunningham (Sarah Douglas) - takes to the skies in an amphibious aircraft, soaring above the mountainous terrain that surrounds this mystical land. However, their aerial adventure is cut short as they become entangled in a fierce dogfight with a gargantuan pterodactylus, forced to make an emergency landing in the unforgiving landscape.

As they struggle to come to terms with their precarious situation, they find themselves thrust into a world where primitive warriors and prehistoric creatures roam free. With survival as their top priority, McBride's party must employ cunning and guile to evade these ancient adversaries and navigate their way back to the safety of their ship. It is here that they cross paths with Ajor (Dana Gillespie), a cave-girl who has been imbued with the gift of language by Tyler himself; she takes it upon herself to guide them towards the realm of the Nargas, a samurai-like warrior clan who have taken Tyler captive.

As the volcanic forces that govern this ancient world begin to stir, unleashing a cataclysmic fury that threatens to engulf everything in its path, McBride and his companions must find a way to escape the impending doom. In a moment of ultimate sacrifice, Tyler gives his life to cover their retreat, ensuring their safe passage back to the world they left behind.
