Beyond the Night 2019

In 1998 London, we meet the bright-eyed aspiring singer Noni Jean, portrayed by Azhy Robertson, as she embarks on a pivotal moment in her journey to stardom. Accompanied by her ambitious mother, Macy (played by Tammy Blanchard), Noni visits a salon to prepare for her upcoming performance at a talent contest. Although Noni’s rendition of Nina Simone’s heartfelt song “Blackbird” earns her a commendable second place, her mother’s relentless desire for perfection drives her to shatter Noni’s trophy in disappointment, leaving a haunting mark on their relationship.

Fast forward to the present, and Noni has blossomed into a hot sensation in the music industry, freshly honored with a Billboard Music Award for her collaboration with her boyfriend, Kid Culprit. However, the intense pressure of fame and the expectations surrounding her rapidly bear down on her spirit, leading to a desperate moment where she almost ends her life by plummeting from a hotel balcony.
