Plot Summary

The film begins with a harrowing scene where a young man, his face obscured, undergoes gruesome torture. Two tubes are forced into his nose, and a greenish liquid is pumped in, causing blood to flow from the other side, before he is violently killed with a heavy hammer.

Jennifer Tree, portrayed by Elisha Cuthbert, is a rising fashion model who has captivated both photographers and the public alike. However, one fateful night, during a solitary outing, she becomes a target, stalked and drugged by a sinister captor. When she regains consciousness, she finds herself imprisoned in a small cell, surrounded by a series of metal bins and numbered lockers filled with her personal belongings.

As she navigates through her terrifying situation, Jennifer is forced to watch disturbing videotapes of previous victims, alongside the media interviews she had given in the past, further intensifying her sense of despair. In an agonizing state of confinement, she pleads for help, her cries echoing through the emptiness. Jennifer is subjected to various forms of psychological and sensory torment, including a horrifying ordeal where she must consume a grotesque mixture made from a previous victim’s bodily parts. To add to her horror, she is presented with an impossible choice: decide who will die within 30 seconds—herself or her beloved dog Suzy.

Fortunately, Jennifer isn’t entirely alone in her torment. She discovers a fellow captive, Gary, played by Daniel Gillies, who is imprisoned in an adjacent cell. The two make contact, sharing their fears and piecing together the reason behind their abduction. After witnessing unimaginable brutality, they attempt to escape but find themselves in the grip of danger once more when they confront their captor.

In a chaotic struggle, Gary ends up in a sinister situation where both he and Jennifer are confined together in a “torture chair.” When the captor prepares to extract Jennifer’s tooth, Gary selflessly offers to sacrifice his own instead. Following a brief moment of intimacy, their fleeting relief ends abruptly as Jennifer is again overpowered and drugged.

Amid a series of disorienting scenes, a video reveals the haunting image of a mother making a tragic apology to her son before he brutally stabs her. This sinister moment is interconnected with Gary’s dark past, revealing him and his older brother Ben, brought to life by Pruitt Taylor Vince, as the orchestrators of Jennifer’s nightmare. In a shocking twist, after professing his growing love for Jennifer to Ben, Gary’s loyalty is put to the test.

As the tension escalates, a knock at the door brings detectives searching for Ben. Caught in a web of deceit, Gary tells them Ben is not home, but the detectives intrude anyway, inadvertently exposing themselves to danger when they discover the surveillance of Jennifer. In a shocking act, Gary kills both detectives, solidifying his role in the chaos.

Rushing back to Jennifer, he insists it’s time to escape, but the situation spirals further when one of the detectives, presumed dead, attacks Jennifer. She defends herself with a bat, mistaking him for a captor. Driven by an instinct for survival, she stumbles upon Ben, who has also survived, and manages to overpower him.

In a pivotal moment of self-defense, while rummaging through the detective’s belongings, Jennifer discovers a gun. In her desperate state, she initially struggles to use it, but when confronted by Gary, she gains the upper hand—kicking him and seizing the firearm. With newfound determination, she avenges herself by shooting him, ultimately escaping her grim fate.

The film concludes with a haunting yet slightly triumphant scene, showcasing posters of Jennifer’s upcoming film, DARE, symbolizing her struggle and survival against overwhelming odds.
