Lance Zutterland, a recent college graduate, finds himself drowning in debt amid a financial crisis. The lack of job opportunities and mounting bills create immense pressure on him, forcing him to consider extreme measures.

Team Formation

In a desperate bid to secure their future, Lance teams up with fellow graduates, including Ellis Beck, Jack, Stewart, Chandler, and Allie. Together, they devise a plan to steal valuable paintings from Chicago's wealthy residents, driven by their financial desperation.

Meeting Mel Donnelly

The group engages with Mel Donnelly, a shady figure who guides their heist operations. Mel emphasizes the importance of delivering stolen items unharmed, adding an air of tension as the stakes of their criminal endeavors increase.

Gaining Access to the Wealthy

In order to carry out their plan, the crew purchases flashy business attire to masquerade as accountants. This disguise allows them to gain access to upper-class clients and manipulate them into revealing their home addresses.

Chandler’s Mistake

During their preparation, Chandler inadvertently encounters a realtor, which leads to an identifiable facial composite of their group being circulated. This blunder presents a threat to their heist operation, increasing their risk of capture.

Targeting Daniel Wardlaw

Jack discovers a promising target: the luxurious home of Daniel Wardlaw, believed to contain a safe with a fortune. The group eagerly plots this next heist, motivated by greed and the potential for a large payday.

Mel's Warning

Mel gathers the crew for a meeting, introducing new henchmen and delivering a stern warning about loyalty. He stresses that any betrayal of his trust will not be tolerated, escalating the sense of danger surrounding their activities.

Allie's Overdose

Chaos ensues when Allie suffers an overdose at a nightclub, putting the group in a precarious situation. Stewart callously suggests abandoning her, but Lance's refusal to leave her side highlights his growing sense of responsibility.

The Heist at Wardlaw’s Estate

During the heist, Jack takes the lead to subdue Wardlaw, while Stewart and Chandler begin stealing cash from the vault. However, Lance's anger over Stewart's earlier treatment of Allie leads him to lock them inside the vault after taking the loot.

Allie’s Refusal

Upon returning to Ellis's apartment, Lance and Jack are devastated to find Allie refusing to leave with them, primarily due to Ellis's intimidation. This moment of emotional turmoil sets off a series of events leading to the group's downfall.

Arrest of the Group

The chaotic events culminate in the group's arrest, with each member facing lengthy prison sentences of at least seven years. Their dreams of a better life are shattered as they confront the reality of their actions.

Escape to Nebraska

After their arrest, Lance and Jack manage to escape to a motel in Nebraska, hoping to lay low. However, when Lance awakens to find Jack and their getaway vehicle missing, his situation becomes increasingly dire.
