Ian Smith, portrayed by Aaron Glenane, and his girlfriend, Samantha “Sam” Shaw, take off on a romantic getaway to a secluded beach to celebrate New Year’s Eve. During their journey, they encounter Scotty “German” Shepherd, a local resident who shares enchanting stories about a stunning waterfall. After arriving, they set up camp near an abandoned locality, ensuring they leave no trace of the previous inhabitants.
As time passes, Ian and Sam’s sense of unease grows when they find a toddler wandering alone in the woods. Meanwhile, German shares information about the couple with his accomplice, Todd “Chook” Fowler. This sets off a chain of events where Chook intercepts Ian and Sam at the campsite parking area, revealing that their car has suffered a flat tire. He convinces Ian to explore the nearby area in search of a missing family, while Sam stays back with the child.
Just three days earlier, the Voss-Baker family—Robert Baker, Margaret Voss, their teenage daughter Emily, and infant son Ollie—were enjoying their own camping trip on the beach. Unfortunately, this idyllic scene turned horrific when German and Chook kidnapped Robert, Margaret, and Emily, completely unaware of little Ollie’s presence amidst the turmoil. The duo subjected the family to unimaginable horrors, including rape, torture, and ultimately, murder, leaving only Ollie behind as they discovered his image in a photograph on Emily’s phone, which prompted a desperate search for him.
In the present timeline, Chook takes Ian to the gruesome scene where German has left the Voss-Baker family’s lifeless bodies. To Ian’s horror, it turns out that Margaret has survived her ordeal. In a desperate attempt to save her, Ian races against time, but Chook intervenes and coldly shoots her dead. He then reveals his dark intentions toward Sam, igniting a fierce confrontation as Ian fights to overpower him, forcing Chook to flee into the wilderness. Meanwhile, at the campsite, German finds Sam alone with Ollie. In an attempt to abduct her, Sam bravely fights back, inflicting injury upon German and escaping with Ollie by her side.
As Ian continues his search for Chook, he mistakenly finds German and kills him in what he believes is a mercy act. Nearby, he hears Ollie’s cries that betray their hiding spot, allowing Chook to seize the moment, overpowering Ollie and capturing Sam. He taunts Ian, revealing his plans to wait at the very site where the Voss-Baker family’s tragedy occurred. With this grim revelation, Ian devises a plan for rescue and revenge.
Cautiously emerging from his hiding place, Ian uncovers German’s car keys tucked securely in his pocket. Meanwhile, at the scene of dread, Chook’s patience thins as he waits for Ian to appear, threatening to impose further suffering upon Sam as he drags her away into the unknown, completely unbothered by German’s cold body lying nearby. In a moment of chaos, Sam finds herself in a fierce battle with Chook inside the vehicle, which culminates in a catastrophic crash, rendering them both unconscious.
As night falls, Ian rushes to the local police station, pleading for help. He returns to the campsite with two officers, discovering that Sam has revived amidst the car wreck, her hands unfortunately bound to the steering wheel. The officers bravely attempt to intervene, but their efforts are tragically halted by Chook’s gunfire. Ian too becomes a victim of Chook’s ruthless machinations, sustaining a gunshot wound and getting taken hostage. An anguished Sam then asks, “Is Ollie alright?” only to learn heart-wrenchingly that her friend had never been with him.
The narrative transforms into a desperate quest as Sam commandeers Chook’s vehicle towards an uncertain future. In a moment of sheer bravery, she orchestrates a monumental crash that sends their vehicle careening off the road. As the wreck smolders, Chook is able to escape and engage Sam in a brutal confrontation, but she ultimately triumphs by delivering a fatal blow with a rock, putting an end to his reign of terror.
In the aftermath of this nightmarish experience, Sam awakens in a hospital bed, where she discovers Ian recovering from his injuries in a nearby room. The fate of Ollie hangs in the balance, leaving a somber feeling as Banjo silently keeps watch over German’s lifeless form, their vigil unbroken as the uncertainty of Ollie’s fate looms darkly ahead.
