The cinematic adventure unfolds in the harsh terrain of The New World, where a skilled group of hunters, led by Boran Jing, embarks on a perilous journey across the blazing desert sands. Their ship unwittingly rouses the fearsome Diablos, a monstrous entity lurking in the dunes. The chaos that follows results in numerous casualties as the beast wreaks havoc on their vessel, leading to the fall of one solitary hunter, Boran Jing, into the vast desert below.

In a parallel realm, Captain Natalie Artemis, portrayed by Milla Jovovich, gathers a formidable squad of elite soldiers, including Dash (Meagan Good), Link (Tip “T.I.” Harris), Marshall (Diego Boneta), Steeler (Josh Helman), and Ax (Jin Au-Yeung). They are tasked with a mission in the desert that soon reveals a series of enigmatic markers. Activating these markers unleashes a devastating storm, causing the ground to crumble and forcing the team down a perilous crevice.

As they awaken, the remaining members of the team are met with the grim sight of their fallen comrades, victims of a force that dwarfs any human technology. Under Artemis’s leadership, they mount a desperate attempt to escape the relentless landscape. Their journey takes a treacherous turn when they encounter what they initially believe to be a massive ribcage, only to discover it harbors the domain of the Diablos.

From a distance, Boran Jing, the hunter, tries to warn the group using an arrow marked with chalk, but his warning is mishandled as a threat. Their aggressive response prompts the Diablos to emerge from the sands, pursuing the team with relentless fury. Tragedy strikes as Ax meets a grim fate under the beast’s deadly claws, and Steeler falls victim to its horn. With no other option, the survivors seek sanctuary within a nearby cave.

Just as they think they are safe, night brings forth an even greater horror: the Nerscylla, a horde of cave-dwelling arachnids. Marshall becomes a meal for one of these creatures while Artemis finds herself knocked out and awakening in a chilling web-pod produced by the Nerscylla. In a harrowing scene, she discovers Dash’s lifeless body beside her while a hatching monster begins to charge at the gravely injured Link. In a frantic escape, Artemis is propelled into the blinding daylight, a weakness for the Nerscylla, and prepares to face the threats that lie ahead.

The tension escalates during a standoff between Artemis and the hunter, both perceiving each other as potential threats. Engagement ensues, resulting in Artemis’s capture as Boran Jing takes her to his cave, wary of the approaching Nerscylla. Their conflict eventually draws in more Nerscylla, prompting an unexpected ceasefire where Artemis shares chocolate from her supplies with the hunter. Navigating their uncertain alliance, Artemis confides in the hunter about her aim to return home through the rift that transported her to this world, but a formidable adversary stands in her way: the Diablos. The two concoct a daring strategy, suggesting that they use the Nerscylla’s venom against their enemies. Gradually, the hunter teaches her how to wield his deadly weapons, ultimately capturing a Nerscylla to extract its venom before they retreat to the relative safety of his cave.

However, an unexpected betrayal from the Admiral leaves Artemis vulnerable, as he confines her in a prison-like enclosure with her former allies, including a humorous feline chef known as Felyne. The Admiral reveals his true agenda: safeguarding his realm from interdimensional dangers, educating Artemis about Rathalos’s formidable powers.

United, they prepare for a joint confrontation against the Rathalos. As ardent warriors, Artemis fights alongside the Admiral’s team. When the beast retaliates, a chance presents itself for Artemis to make a daring escape, catapulting herself back into her native world.
