Olympus Has Fallen 2013

Former U.S. Army Ranger Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), an esteemed Secret Service agent, is entrusted with the crucial responsibility of heading the Presidential Detail. He shares a warm and friendly bond with President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart), First Lady Margaret Asher (Ashley Judd), and their beloved son Connor Asher (Finley Jacobsen). One fateful Christmas evening, their lives are irreversibly altered when a tree falls onto the President’s convoy during a drive from Camp David to a campaign fundraiser. This catastrophic event causes the vehicles to skid dangerously on black ice, leading to a harrowing plunge into an icy river, leaving Margaret unconscious and ultimately resulting in tragedy as she, along with two other agents, perishes in the crash.

Fast forward eighteen months, and we find Banning reassigned to the Treasury Department, where the haunting memories of that fateful night loom over him, particularly for President Asher, who can no longer maintain a connection with Banning. Complications arise during an important meeting between Asher and South Korean Prime Minister Lee Tae-Woo (Keong Sim) as Korean-led guerrilla forces, alongside traitorous elements within Lee’s own protection detail like Dave Forbes (Dylan McDermott), launch a bold and violent assault on the White House, successfully capturing it. A desperate counterattack by the remaining Secret Service agents fails, resulting in further chaos and casualties as Asher and key officials find themselves trapped in the bunker, where tragedy continues as Prime Minister Lee meets his demise.

The orchestrator of this terrifying attack is Kang Yeonsak (Rick Yune), a relentless ex-North Korean terrorist motivated by a personal vendetta: to exact revenge for his parents’ deaths and to manipulate U.S. military presence in Korea. His chilling plan involves using Asher as leverage to secure nuclear codes from the White House, intending to wreak havoc on the U.S. and force a military withdrawal. Asher, determined to protect his compatriots, instructs the officials in the bunker, insisting on revealing their codes to save themselves.

As chaos erupts on the White House lawn, Banning re-enters the fray, rallying to support the defenders of the White House. Utilizing his skills, he disables internal surveillance and contacts Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman), the Speaker of the House now acting as President. Banning’s immediate goal is to rescue Connor from Kang’s grip, who plans on leveraging the boy to extract Asher’s code. Demonstrating his training, Banning successfully locates Connor and escorts him to safety, all while systematically dismantling the terrorist threat.

Banning faces off against Forbes, misleading him into believing he is finished before proceeding with the mission. Trumbull, unaware of the ongoing betrayals, orders an aerial assault on the White House, though Banning warns of the advanced anti-aircraft threats that await. This leads to catastrophic loss as Kang’s forces retaliate fiercely, killing key figures including Vice President Charlie Rodriguez (Phil Austin).

With Kang’s numbers dwindling and desperation thick in the air, Banning outsmarts the situation, orchestrating further attacks on Kang’s command. Just when hope seems dim, a battle ensues in the bunker where the stakes soar. Amid the fray, Banning combats Kang in a fierce knife fight; ultimately, he emerges victorious by overcoming the enemy, a climax marked by the escalating tension as he disarms the catastrophic Cerberus device.

Banning helps President Asher escape the fallen fortress of the White House, a place that had become a symbol of both conflict and resilience. The aftermath sees Washington, D.C. slowly healing from the shocking attack as Banning resumes his prestigious role as head of the Presidential Detail, standing watch over Asher as he addresses the nation, a silent witness to their shared struggle and triumph.
