Anand Kumar, portrayed by Hrithik Roshan, emerges as a passionate and academically gifted lower-class student. He receives the encouraging support of the local minister Devraj, played by Pankaj Tripathy, who promises assistance whenever Anand is in need. Anand shares a close friendship with Ritu Rashmi, depicted by Mrunal Thakur, who enjoys his company. Every weekend, Anand travels to a library in another city to work on a challenging foreign Math journal. However, one day, the library manager confronts him, declaring that he has no rights to read there.
One of the staff members suggests that Anand should seek a feature in a local newspaper, which could elevate his profile and secure a complimentary subscription to the journal. Seizing the opportunity, Anand visits his father’s workplace at the post office, where he manages to get featured in the paper after successfully solving several difficult Math problems. This recognition leads to a letter of invitation from Professor Richard at Cambridge University, but Anand faces a critical challenge—he lacks the funds to make the journey. When Anand and his father approach the local minister for financial support, Devraj ultimately disappoints them, further exacerbating their despair.
Tragedy strikes when Anand’s father suffers a heart attack and passes away, prompting Anand to abandon his dreams of Cambridge due to both his grief and financial struggles. In desperate times, he resorts to selling Papads in the city. Fortunately, he crosses paths with Lallan Singh, played by Aditya Srivastava, an assistant to the local minister. Lallan offers Anand a teaching position at the Excellence Coaching Centre, which is financially backed by Devraj, who also profits from various local businesses.
During his tenure at the coaching center, Anand witnesses the heartbreaking reality of a student forced to leave due to financial constraints. This revelation ignites a passionate determination in Anand, who believes that poor children deserve access to education as well. Consequently, he resigns from Excellence and starts his own tuition classes for underprivileged kids, welcoming 30 students at a time. He adopts a practical approach to teaching, ensuring that his students grasp concepts in an enjoyable and engaging manner. This decision triggers turmoil for Lallan, whose center faces a backlash as Anand’s departure threatens their affluent students.
The story intensifies as Anand’s students struggle with exams, which is exacerbated by their feelings of inferiority compared to the English-speaking pupils at Excellence. To boost their confidence, Anand organizes an English play on Holi, allowing the students to showcase their skills. Throughout this journey, Anand’s brother Pranav, played by Nandish Sandhu, and their mother provide essential support. However, their financial situation worsens, leading Anand to make a bet with Lallan: if his students outperform Lallan’s students in an exam, he will receive three months’ worth of supplies; if not, he will shut down his center.
As the tension escalates, Lallan and Devraj scheme to eliminate Anand to prevent his students from gaining entry into prestigious IIT institutions. Anand sustains grave injuries during a brutal attack and finds himself hospitalized at the brink of death. Even in this predicament, he inspires his students to harness their education to confront the goons sent by the minister. After a near-fatal struggle, Anand’s teachings empower his students, who unite to outsmart the attackers.
Ultimately, Anand recovers and his students sit for the IIT exams, achieving remarkable success as all 30 of them pass. The story illustrates a profound journey of resilience, hope, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge against all odds.
