Plot Summary
A young Dutch boy named Michiel van Beusekom becomes involved in the Dutch resistance during World War II, determined to protect a British airman from the clutches of the Nazis in occupied Netherlands. Despite feeling frustrated with his father, the mayor, who seems more focused on keeping peace with the German authorities, Michiel idolizes his adventurous Uncle Ben, who maintains ties with the local resistance. As the harsh winter of 1944-1945 unfolds, Michiel’s loyalties are put to the ultimate test.
The story begins when an RAF de Havilland Mosquito aircraft is shot down, but a young British pilot, Jack, manages to escape by parachuting to safety.
