Anthony Quinn, initially called Manuel Antonio Rodolfo Quinn Oaxaca, was an acclaimed actor noted for his portrayal of vibrant, earthy characters. He exhibited an elemental virility in over 100 film, television, and stage roles between 1936 and 2002. Born in Chihuahua City, Mexico, Quinn's talent extended beyond acting. He was a civil rights activist, successful painter, and author of several autobiographical books.

After peaking his career as a boxer and architect, he debuted in the film industry with 'The Plainsman' in 1936. He became the first Mexican-born performer to win an Academy Award for his portrayal of Eufemio Zapata in 'Viva Zapata!' (1952). He gained subsequent recognition for his performances in 'Wild is the Wind' (1958), 'Zorba the Greek' (1964), and other notable films. He transformed into a significant character actor in his later years, gaining international recognition for his elemental portrayals.
