Eric Samuel André, also known for his stage name Blarf, is a multi-talented American comedian, actor, TV show host, writer, producer, and musician, born on April 4, 1983 in Boca Raton, Florida. His mother is of Ashkenazi Jewish descent from New York's Upper West Side, and his father is an Afro-Haitian immigrant who worked as a psychiatrist. André identifies as both Black and Jewish. After graduating from Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida, in 2001, Andre pursued his studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, becoming proficient on the double bass. He would go on to graduate in 2005 with a Bachelor of Music degree. André started his comedy career in 2003 and has since become known for his unique brand of humor which encompasses surreal, shock, improvisational, anti-humor, cringe, and black comedy, often presented in the format of sketch comedy.
André is best known as the creator, host, and co-writer of the Adult Swim surreal comedy series: The Eric Andre Show (2012–2023). Notable roles in his acting career include Mike on the FXX comedy series Man Seeking Woman (2015–2017), Luci on the Netflix series Disenchantment (2018–2023), and the voice of Azizi in the remake of The Lion King (2019). In 2021, he created and starred in the Netflix prank comedy film Bad Trip. His first standup special on Netflix, Legalize Everything, was released in June 2020. André is a self-described agnostic atheist and a practitioner of Transcendental Meditation. Additionally, he openly uses whippets as a method to manage anxiety. He is also a prominent supporter of democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, having publicly endorsed him during the 2020 presidential election.
