Gérard Jugnot, born as Gérard Jean Jugnot on May 4th, 1951 is a multifaceted French artist, known mainly for his work as an actor, film director, screenwriter and film producer. He began making waves in the world of cinema during the 1970s as one of the founders of the comedy troupe Le Splendid. His comrades in this creative venture included his high-school friends Christian Clavier, Thierry Lhermitte, and Michel Blanc, and later, Josiane Balasko and Marie-Anne Chazel also joined the troupe. Le Splendid enjoyed immense success with their stage adaptations for the cinema, with films like Les Bronzés (1978), Les Bronzés font du ski (1979) and Le Père Noël est une ordure (1982) resonating with audiences.

His role in Les Choristes as Clément Mathieu brought him international acclaim and recognition. Apart from his achievements on the big screen, Jugnot has also tried his hand behind the scenes as a director. The last movie he directed was C'est beau la vie quand on y pense (2017). Gérard's talent also runs in the family, as he is father to Arthur Jugnot, a known comedian himself.
