Ian Holm

Sir Ian Holm Cuthbert CBE (12 September 1931 – 19 June 2020) was an English actor applauded for his versatile performances. He graduated from the esteemed Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and started his glittering career on the British Stage as a distinguished member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Soon-after, he was conquering both the silver screen and the small screen, earning numerous awards including two BAFTA Awards, a Tony Award and an Academy Award nomination for his performances.

Holm shone brightly in his role in the 1967 staging of The Homecoming leading to him winning a Tony Award. He swept the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor for his role in King Lear. His roles in television also saw him winning 2 Primetime Emmy Awards. Also, he found large success in the movie industry, notably as athletics trainer Sam Mussabini in Chariots of Fire (1981) and elderly Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's - The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Holm unquestionably took the stage, screen and audiences adoration with finesse, leaving a significant impact on the acting industry.
