49th British Academy Film Awards 1996
The 49th British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs, took place on 23 April 1996 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London, honouring the best national and foreign films of 1995. Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility won Best Film and also garnered acting awards for Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, while Il Postino: The Postman won awards for Best Director, Best Film Not in the English Language, and Best Original Music. Nigel Hawthorne and Tim Roth won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively, and the ceremony was hosted by Angus Deayton.
