Robert Englund

Robert Barton Englund, born June 6, 1947, is an acclaimed American actor and director. Most notably recognized for his portrayal of the notorious villain Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, Englund's outstanding performance has won him several awards including a Saturn Award, a Fangoria Chainsaw Award, and a well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Englund was refined at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and commenced his acting career in regional theatre. His big-screen debut came with Buster and Billie (1974), after which he played various roles in films such as Stay Hungry (1976), A Star Is Born (1976), and Big Wednesday (1978).

Englund broke through as the resistance fighter Willie in the miniseries V in 1983, leading him to become closely associated with the horror genre. He continued his role as Freddy in seven sequels, as well as the horror anthology series Freddy's Nightmares (1988–1990). Englund was born in Glendale, California, where he started studying acting from the age of twelve. His diverse career saw him auditioning for the roles of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker in Star Wars back in 1976. Known for his friendly and congeniality, Englund played the same character in eight consecutive films and made over 100 appearances on film and television. Englund, despite the fearsome characters he portrays on screen, remains a cherished figure in Hollywood due to his fine acting talent and a deep appreciation of fans.
