Salma Hayek, an actress and film producer, was born Salma Valgarma Hayek Jiménez on September 2, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. She began her career in Mexico starring in the telenovela Teresa and the film Midaq Alley. She broke into Hollywood with films such as Desperado, From Dusk till Dawn, Wild Wild West, and Dogma. Her portrayal of painter Frida Kahlo in the film Frida, which she also produced, garnered her an Academy Award nomination. Throughout the years, she continued to act and produce in popular films like Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Grown Ups. She has also lent her voice in animated films such as Puss in Boots and Sausage Party. Hayek is acclaimed for her performances in dramas like Tale of Tales, Beatriz at Dinner and House of Gucci. She is also known for her work on television, including ABC's television comedy-drama Ugly Betty, where she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy. Apart from acting, Hayek is cited as one of Hollywood's most powerful and influential Latina actresses and one of the world's most beautiful women. In 2021, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was honored with a Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour in 2011.
