Stephen Herek

Stephen Herek, born November 10, 1958, is an esteemed American film director, boasting a career that spans over three decades. Best known for directing the 1989 watershed film Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, he began his foray into filmmaking in earnest when his career took off in 1986 with the cult horror classic Critters. Herek studied film at the University of Texas at Austin, laying a solid foundation for his swiftly ascending career. A regular director for The Walt Disney Company throughout the 1990s, he demonstrated incredible versatility, directing not only comedy and adventure films but also dipping into drama. His impressive filmography includes directing The Mighty Ducks in 1992, The Three Musketeers in 1993, the highly successful live-action 1996 remake of 101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close, and the Eddie Murphy comedy Holy Man in 1998. One of his other notable works is the critically acclaimed drama Mr. Holland's Opus in 1995. In the 2000s, his outstanding directorial skills continued to shine with films like Rock Star, a Toronto International Film Festival entry in 2001.
