What tradition does Amber struggle with while planning her wedding?
One year after the events of the original film, Amber and Richard are still joyfully engaged, navigating the complexities of royal life. However, with Amber’s former news media company now defunct, she and her friends find themselves unemployed. As Christmas approaches, Amber travels to Aldovia with her father, Rudy, to arrange the wedding. Despite her excitement, Amber’s efforts are hindered by the oppressive royal traditions imposed by the flamboyant designer Sahil and Mrs. Averill, causing her to feel increasingly sidelined and frustrated.
Meanwhile, Richard grapples with the challenges facing his ambitious New Aldovia initiative aimed at rejuvenating the economy, which is inexplicably depleting the monarchy’s funds amid rising discontent among the people due to high unemployment and stagnant wages. To aid Richard, Queen Helena enlists Lord Leopold, who had previously collaborated with Richard’s late father on various aid projects. In the midst of this turmoil, Simon, struggling after his divorce from Sophia, seeks to regain his position at the palace, a request Richard reluctantly grants despite his resentment.
As pressure mounts, Amber finds her relationship with Richard strained; he becomes increasingly consumed by royal duties while she resists the rigid expectations set by Mrs. Averill. The situation escalates when Princess Emily’s planned play is canceled due to a strike by government workers, prompting Amber to host the event at the palace herself. While the play is well-received, Amber’s joy quickly turns to anger when Mrs. Averill removes her blog posts about the affair, deeming them too casual, and pressures her to remove her cherished locket that holds her late mother’s picture for a royal portrait.
Determined to uncover the truth behind the economic woes, Amber, aided by her friends who have come to celebrate with her, investigates the royal finances. She discovers that the New Aldovia initiative is faltering because new, international companies are undercutting local businesses, siphoning funds out of the nation. During a paparazzi encounter, Simon steps in to assist Amber, advocating to explore the financial discrepancies further. The team, with Emily’s cleverness, hacks into a system revealing that the troublesome companies are linked to the Glockenspiel Consortium.
As tensions rise, Mrs. Averill confronts Amber and Richard about the paparazzi photos taken during her investigation, leading to a confrontation where Amber exposes her findings. When Richard fails to stand up for her, she storms out, prompting Richard to reflect on his shortcomings as a fiancé. After they meet again, the couple reconciles and publicly address the issues plaguing Aldovia.
During a grand royal celebration, where Helena graciously supports Amber’s vision for their wedding, the group reveals that Lord Leopold is the mastermind behind the Glockenspiel Consortium, resulting in his arrest and imprisonment. In the aftermath, Richard delivers a heartfelt Christmas message promising bonuses to Aldovian workers, igniting joy amongst the people. Finally, Amber and Richard marry in a beautiful ceremony that fuses tradition with modernity, culminating in a private kiss that seals their love amidst the festivities.
