Who takes care of the Chipmunks while Dave is in the hospital?

Plot Summary

As Dave Seville (recovering from a rather ignominious tumble) lies in a French hospital bed, he entrusts his aunt Jackie with the care of his beloved Chipmunks, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. Meanwhile, Ian Hawke, once the high-powered CEO of JETT Records, finds himself humbled by poverty and reduced to residing in the company’s basement. His fortunes take an unexpected turn when three sultry female chipmunks, Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor, affectionately known as the Chipettes, emerge from a FedEx package like a trio of musical sirens.

Back in West Eastman High School, Toby, Jackie’s grandson and Dave’s cousin, assumes guardianship of the Chipmunks. As they navigate their new surroundings, they’re subjected to bullying by two jealous jocks, Ryan and Xander. The school’s principal, Dr. Rubin, a fan who’s witnessed their performances in Denver, Colorado, seizes the opportunity to rally the Chipmunks around his music program. Ian, however, is stunned to discover his former protégés splashed across the front page of his newspaper.

As the rivalry between the Chipmunks and the Chipettes begins to simmer, Ian cleverly capitalizes on their popularity by enrolling the Chipettes in school. The initial meeting between the two groups yields an unexpected spark, leaving both parties smitten. But Brittany’s warning to her fellow Chipettes - that they’ve been betrayed by Ian - serves as a cautionary tale.

Alvin and his friends struggle to maintain focus during rehearsals, their attention hijacked by their newfound crushes. Ian, ever the opportunist, swoops in with his latest acquisition, the Chipettes, and convinces Dr. Rubin to let them compete in the Battle of the Bands. The setup for a showdown between the two groups is set in motion.

As Alvin becomes fast friends with the school’s jocks, he unwittingly commits to joining their football team - oblivious to the fact that the next game coincides with the concert. When Theodore and Simon take the stage at the Battle of the Bands, they’re forced to reveal Alvin’s absence, effectively awarding the Chipettes a default victory.

Alvin arrives at the auditorium only to find it empty, whereupon Brittany delivers an impassioned rebuke for his lack of accountability - leaving him feeling deflated and uncertain.

As Alvin’s homecoming attempt falters, Theodore seizes the opportunity to make a break for it, fleeing to the Los Angeles Zoo where he finds solace among a family of meerkats. However, his newfound peace is short-lived as a menacing wedge-tailed eagle invades their enclosure, prompting Alvin and Simon to mount a daring rescue mission to save their brother from the talons of the avian predator.

Meanwhile, the Chipettes are faced with an impossible decision: perform as an opening act for pop sensation Britney Spears on the same night as the school’s Battle of the Bands contest, or risk being locked away in a cage by their ruthless manager Ian. As tensions rise, Jeanette and Eleanor are relegated to secondary status, forced to harmonize alongside Brittany while their own contributions are ignored. It takes an ultimatum from Britney herself, refusing to perform without the full quartet, for Ian to finally relent and allow all four girls to share the spotlight.

Just as it seems like the Chipmunks are about to perform solo at the Battle of the Bands, Alvin receives a distress call from the imprisoned Chipettes. With Simon providing expert lock-picking guidance over the phone, Alvin springs into action to rescue his friends, arriving just in time for the Chipmunks and Chipettes to take the stage together for the first time. Their unified performance is met with thunderous applause, securing the victory and a boost to their music program.

As the dust settles on this chaotic day, Dave returns to find his beloved pets thriving once more, having allowed the Chipettes to join their fold. Ian, meanwhile, meets a humiliating demise at the Staples Centre, where he’s caught trying to impersonate the Chipmunks and unceremoniously ejected from the arena, left to ponder his fate in a dumpster (after the credits have rolled).

In a separate subplot, Ryan, Xander, and Jeremy are forced to confront the consequences of their mischief, spending the day scraping gum off the gymnasium bleachers as punishment for harassing the Chipmunks and denying Alvin a spot at the sing-off.
