Aquamarine

As the impending departure date draws near, two inseparable teenagers, Claire (Emma Roberts) and Hailey (Joanna "JoJo" Levesque), are faced with the daunting reality of being torn apart by circumstance. The stormy night that follows serves as a harbinger of change, as they stumble upon an enigmatic mermaid, Aquamarine (Sara Paxton), swimming laps in their beach club's pool. Initially awestruck and frightened, the girls soon find themselves captivated by the mysterious stranger's ethereal presence.

When they return to the snack shack the following morning, they're astonished to discover that Aquamarine has transformed into a human form, her shimmering tail replaced with limbs and skin. As she explains the constraints of her new shape, Claire and Hailey are drawn to her vulnerability and determination. Aquamarine's confidantes soon learn that she's on a quest to find love, an unfamiliar concept she desperately yearns for. Her father has given her an ultimatum: secure love within three days, or be bound by an arranged marriage.

As the girls become fast friends with Aquamarine, they're eager to help her win the heart of Raymond (Jake McDorman), a charming lifeguard who's caught her eye. Seeing this as their chance to thwart Hailey's impending relocation, Claire and Hailey throw their support behind their mermaid friend. Meanwhile, Cecilia (Arielle Kebbel), a spoiled socialite, attempts to sabotage their efforts, but ultimately fails.

The trio's adventures are punctuated by the wise guidance of Leonard, an eccentric caretaker who becomes Aquamarine's guardian angel. As the days unfold, Claire and Hailey realize that it's not Raymond who will convince Aquamarine of human love, but rather her own friends' selfless sacrifices. In a poignant moment, Aquamarine shares a romantic kiss with Raymond, vowing to reunite in the future.

With their combined wish granted by Aquamarine, Claire and Hailey are faced with a bittersweet decision: should they use it now or save it for a later date? The girls ultimately decide to hold onto their wish, planning to utilize it to ensure that all three of them can spend summers together in the years to come.
