Amidst the chaos of a violent storm, Captain John Finnegan and his crew members, Joey Pantucci and Leila, are engaged by a group of mercenaries, including Hanover, Mulligan, Mason, Billy, T-Ray, Mamooli, and Vivo, to navigate their vessel across the treacherous waters of the South China Sea, headed toward an undisclosed meeting point. Concurrently, the luxurious cruise ship Argonautica, crafted and owned by the enigmatic Simon Canton, embarks on its maiden voyage, shrouded in excitement and anticipation. However, this excitement turns to terror when a saboteur skillfully disables the ship’s vital navigation and communication systems.
As the situation escalates, an unseen terror lurks beneath the waters, eventually surfacing to violently ram the luxurious liner, leaving it stranded and vulnerable. The tranquility of the passengers is shattered as they become prey to monstrous creatures that emerge from the deep. In the midst of this horror, Finnegan’s vessel collides with a rogue speedboat, which has been dislodged from the Argonautica. Seizing this chaotic opportunity, the mercenaries decide to take control, plotting to rob the unfortunate passengers and access the ship’s hidden vault, before laying waste to the ship with torpedoes concealed on their boat.
In the ensuing chaos, Leila and Billy are left behind to fend for themselves as the rest of the mercenaries board the Argonautica. Tragically, both find themselves falling victim to the ferocious creatures prowling the ship’s corridors. Upon infiltrating the grand ballroom of the ship, Finnegan and Joey stumble upon a gruesome scene filled with blood, but no sign of the passengers. Driven by the desperate need for survival, they venture into the ship’s workshop, seeking parts to repair their damaged boat, while the others explore the ship.
In an unfortunate turn of events, T-Ray, driven by curiosity, investigates strange noises echoing through the halls, only to meet a horrifying fate at the hands of the lurking creatures. As panic ensues, Mamooli attempts to reach out to Hanover but is also captured and dragged into the darkness. During their frantic escape, Finnegan and Joey encounter Trillian, a passenger who had been unjustly imprisoned for theft.
Things take a darker twist when Hanover’s group reaches the coveted vault, and Vivo is unexpectedly killed by Canton, who has been hiding along with Captain Atherton and a trio of other terrified passengers. The revelation that Canton is, in fact, the saboteur orchestrating the chaos becomes apparent, as he had conspired with the mercenaries to send the unprofitable ship to its watery grave in order to claim a hefty insurance payout. As the deep-sea creatures continue their bloodthirsty assault, Captain Atherton falls victim to their insatiable appetite.
Canton tries to reason that these creatures are an evolved strain of the Ottoia, creatures designed to drain their victims of their bodily fluids, leaving behind only bloody remnants. As survivors desperately attempt to escape, one mercenary, Mason, finds himself ensnared by a creature’s tentacle and chooses to take his own life by detonating a grenade in a last-ditch effort to avoid being eaten alive. Meanwhile, Mulligan opts to hide in the galley, awaiting a rescue. However, his fate is sealed when he is ultimately devoured by a creature that outsmarts him.
As the tension escalates and the survivors race to save themselves, they are herded toward what becomes a horrific “feeding ground” littered with the skeletal remains of previous victims. With survival instincts kicking in, Canton attempts to mislead the others, guiding them to the bow as he seeks to escape via an alternate route. In a frenzied sequence of events, Hanover sustains a serious wound, prompting him to slow down Joey as they are pursued by the monsters, only to be caught and devoured in his moment of weakness.
After a harrowing set of trials, Finnegan and Trillian spot an island in the distance and manage to return to Finnegan’s boat. However, they discover that, due to the destruction they faced, it is rendered useless for escaping. When Joey reappears, he valiantly starts repairing the boat, while Finnegan devises a risky plan to set the boat’s autopilot to crash into the Argonautica, triggering the torpedoes in the process.
In a race against time, Trillian returns to the Argonautica to search for a jet ski, hoping to gather enough fuel to reach safety. However, Canton, armed with a flare gun and driven by desperation, confronts her. Instead of surrendering, she escapes, igniting a chase through the ship. Ultimately, Finnegan comes to her aid, protecting her in a harrowing confrontation that reveals the creatures are not mere individuals but rather tentacles of an immense undersea beast known as the Octalus.
In a thrilling moment of resolve, Finnegan shoots the creature in the eye, symbolically blinding it and allowing him and Trillian to escape on the jet ski. But not without consequence; Canton, in his frantic flight, jumps onto Finnegan’s boat but meets a tragic fate as he breaks his leg. Unable to deactivate the autopilot, he is doomed to perish alongside his wicked scheme as the boat collides with the Argonautica, culminating in a cataclysmic explosion that obliterates both ships and extinguishes the threat of the Octalus.
In a bittersweet conclusion, Finnegan, Trillian, and Joey manage to survive, reaching the island only to realize they are met with an ominous roar from the jungle. The island, previously seen as a sanctuary, reveals itself to harbor a looming danger—a volcano awaking in the distance, and a new horror preparing to emerge as they brace themselves for whatever may come crashing through the dense foliage towards the beach.
