Check out what happened in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul!

The Heffley clan gathered for dinner at Corny's, where Susan dropped a bombshell: the family would be embarking on a road trip to celebrate Meemaw's 90th birthday in Indianapolis. The news was met with collective dismay by Rodrick and Greg, who were promised a "fun" experience by their mom. Little did they know, their adventure was only just beginning.

As the evening wore on, Greg found himself entangled in a diaper-filled ball pit after being dispatched to rescue Manny from a play area tube. The ensuing chaos would eventually earn him internet infamy as "Diaper Hands." Meanwhile, Susan confiscated everyone's phones, declaring the road trip a technology-free zone - a decision that would prove short-lived.

That night at their motel stopover, Greg secretly retrieved his phone and later conspired with Rodrick to sneak away from the family to attend the Player Expo, where he hoped to put the "Diaper Hands" meme out of commission. The brothers' plan was set in motion, but not before they encountered a pair of mischievous youngsters known as the Beardos, whose father's impressive facial hair earned them their moniker.

As tensions rose, Greg discovered that his nocturnal investigation of a loud noise had awakened a sleeping giant: Mr. Beardo, whose van had been damaged by the family's rambunctious behavior. The father's ire was piqued when he learned that Greg had dubbed them the Beardos and even called their patriarch "a Fat Beardo." With revenge burning in his heart, Mr. Beardo vowed to exact punishment on the unsuspecting Heffley family.

As Manny's good fortune continues to unfold, he emerges victorious from a fair with a piglet in tow. Meanwhile, Mr. Beardo is hot on the heels of Greg (Greg Heffley), his relentless pursuit leaving no stone unturned. The following day, a series of unfortunate events unfolds as a work call and the piglet's unpredictable antics combine to almost send the Heffleys careening off a bridge. In a moment of mercy, they donate the piglet to a nearby petting zoo, much to Manny's dismay; however, this brief respite is short-lived as Greg hijacks the GPS system to redirect their journey to the Player Expo. Back in their hotel room, Rodrick and Greg concoct a plan to surprise Frank (Frank Heffley) and Susan with a gift for Meemaw, but their secrecy is soon shattered as they sneak out to indulge their true desires at the expo.

As fate would have it, Greg's attention is drawn to Mac Digby, a formidable opponent in a video game competition. With Rodrick's assistance, Greg attempts to capture Mac on stage behind him; unfortunately, this well-intentioned gesture inadvertently plunges Mac's screen into darkness. Susan's timely arrival only exacerbates the situation, as she unwittingly reveals to Mac that Greg is none other than Diaper Hands, mortifying him in the process. In a candid moment, Susan confesses that all she desired was a peaceful road trip to strengthen their bond; however, her accusatory tone suggests that Greg has been less than receptive to this endeavor. Feeling suffocated by Susan's controlling nature, Greg confronts her about her hypocrisy and naivety, prompting her to relent and surrender her grip on the family's technology-free escapade. As the dust settles, Greg discovers that Rodrick's recording attempt has inadvertently captured his own image, rendering their initial plan utterly futile.

Upon resuming their journey, the Heffleys' motorboat is beset by a rogue tarp, sending their belongings flying into the great unknown. The Beardos soon materialize, capitalizing on this chaos to pilfer the family's possessions in a fit of retribution.

As the Heffleys pursue the Beardos, their chase is abruptly halted by a snarling traffic jam. Undeterred, Frank (Frank Heffley) and his family take a detour onto a winding back road, only to stumble upon the Beardos' van at another motel on their travels. In a cleverly orchestrated heist, they recover their stolen belongings and, with the birthday celebration for Meemaw just around the corner, Greg finds himself aboard the boat, now detached from the car as they make their way to the party. Despite the car's continued malfunction, a helpful tow truck driver appears on the scene, albeit one who speaks only in Spanish - a language that Manny (Manny Heffley) surprisingly becomes adept at navigating due to an earlier exposure to a Spanish-language CD. The driver expertly guides them to the petting zoo, where they finally recover the pilfered piglet. As the trip comes full circle, Frank is granted time off from work to spend with his family, Rodrick (Rodrick Heffley) receives the financial means to repair his van, and despite its imperfections, Greg reflects on the adventure's many highlights and expresses enthusiasm for their next escapade together. However, Susan drops a bombshell - they'll be taking to the skies in the years to come.

In a delightful mid-credits sequence, Greg takes to snapping selfies with two girls who, recognizing him as the infamous "Diaper Hands," can't help but giggle at his misfortune.
