In a desperate bid to support their terminally ill mother, 17-year-old Matt coerces his 14-year-old brother Joey into committing a brazen robbery at a remote property being fumigated. However, their illicit adventure takes an unexpected turn when security guard Dave Hamby (Dave) gives chase through the surrounding forest, only to tumble into an abandoned well. As Joey feels pangs of guilt over leaving the injured guard trapped, Matt insists on abandoning Dave, fearing he might reveal the brothers' criminal escapade to the authorities. Despite this, Joey secretly visits Dave, bringing him vital supplies and a makeshift communication device. Meanwhile, tensions between the brothers simmer as Joey grows increasingly uneasy about his brother's reckless behavior.

The situation escalates further when Matt attempts to reassert dominance by urinating on Dave's prostrate form, only to be met with incensed indignation from Joey. This outburst is merely a precursor to a far more sinister development: Matt uses the stolen loot meant for their mother's care to fund a lavish motel party, and then compounds his betrayal by spreading rumors that Joey has been pilfering from retired individuals. Joey retaliates by revealing a dark secret - Matt's involvement in the death of another man.

As tensions boil over, Joey flees home only to be confronted with the shocking revelation on their mother's TV news program: the man trapped in the well is none other than Randy Michael Sadler, a notorious fugitive wanted for murdering his family. Joey returns to the abandoned well, where he discovers Randy has miraculously survived the pesticide canister's deadly contents by donning a gas mask dropped earlier in the chase. As Randy reveals that he was attempting to steal back stolen money while posing as a security guard, Joey seizes an opportunity - offering to rescue Randy from the well in exchange for his assistance in exacting revenge on Matt.

With Randy now safely ensconced within their home, Carol recognizes her fugitive visitor from the news bulletin. Her shock turns to dismay when she discovers Joey is actively aiding Randy's flight from justice, further complicating the already tumultuous dynamics between the brothers.

As Matt's suspicions of Joey's involvement in the crime intensify, he unwittingly incriminates himself by reporting Joey to Police Officers Smith and Crane, who are still grappling with the aftermath of the initial vandalism. In a series of unfortunate events, Matt inadvertently reveals his own complicity in the robbery - including the shocking revelation that he was aware of Randy's imprisonment in a nearby hole but failed to alert authorities. The trio's return to the crime scene culminates in a tense standoff between Matt and Randy, with Joey attempting to intervene as both officers fall prey to Randy's gunfire.

In a stunning display of bravery, Joey manages to restrain Randy from delivering the fatal blow, allowing the two officers to escape with their lives. As the drama unfolds, Randy and Joey take Matt on a harrowing journey to the forest, where they ultimately force him into the well that has imprisoned Randy for so long. In a heart-wrenching moment, Randy demands that Joey unleash a torrent of angry insults at his brother, before callously pushing Joey into the depths of the hole.

As Matt's guilt and regret reach a boiling point, he brutally beats an unconscious Joey in a desperate attempt to process the chaos that has consumed their lives. Meanwhile, Carol arrives on the scene, her gun drawn and her eyes fixed intently on Randy. With a calm and calculated demeanor, she reveals her own troubled past, having avenged her abusive husband with a bullet.

As the conversation between Carol and Randy becomes increasingly heated, Matt finally manages to rouse Joey from his unconscious state, lavishing him with tearful apologies for the unforgivable mistakes he has made. In a poignant moment of redemption, Matt and Joey share a long-awaited embrace as Carol brings an end to the tragic events that have unfolded, her gun still trained on Randy's lifeless body.
