In the sleepy Welsh countryside, Jan (character name) and Brian Vokes lead a humdrum existence, their lives as predictable as the rhythm of the rural landscape. Jan's days are filled with the monotony of her supermarket job and her evenings spent tending to her elderly parents. Meanwhile, Brian stays at home, content in his routine. However, things take an unexpected turn when Jan stumbles upon a breeders guidebook while working at the local pub.

Intrigued by Howard Davies' tales of a winning horse he once owned, Jan becomes obsessed with breeding her own champion thoroughbred. Despite Brian's skepticism, she devotes herself to researching the art of horse breeding. Her enthusiasm eventually leads them to purchase Rewbell, a former racehorse sold to them as a brood mare for a mere £300.

As Jan's passion grows, so does her ambition. She enlists Howard's help in selecting a stud and soon forms a syndicate of 20 locals willing to invest £10 per week in their shared dream. With the farmhand's guidance, they await the arrival of Rewbell's foal, which arrives healthy and full of promise. They name him Dream Alliance and, with Howard's blessing, take him to renowned trainer Phillip Hobbs.

As Dream rises through the ranks, overcoming obstacles and setbacks along the way, he becomes a symbol of hope and determination for Jan, Brian, and their syndicate. When Dream wins the King Edward's Challenge, an offer to buy him is rejected by the group, much to the dismay of some of its members. However, Howard sees this as an opportunity to pursue his own dreams, leaving his accounting job behind to open a new firm catering to those who are not wealthy.

But their journey is not without its challenges. When Dream suffers a tendon injury, some members of the syndicate push for his euthanization, citing financial concerns. Jan, however, refuses to give up on their beloved colt, reminding her fellow investors that he has brought them pride and hope. After extensive surgery, rest, and stem cell treatment, Hobbs gives Dream the green light to compete in the upcoming Welsh Grand National, a testament to the power of perseverance and the unbreakable bond between Jan, Brian, and their trusty steed.

As concerns for Dream's welfare mount, Jan's apprehension is met with a chorus of dismissal from the syndicate's ranks, her warnings falling on deaf ears. Undeterred, Dream claims victory in the race, his triumph paving the way for a remarkable decade-long career behind the wheel, culminating in a well-deserved retirement. Meanwhile, the Vokes family, once integral to the syndicate, have since struck out on their own, forging a new entity and setting their sights on an ambitious project, one that promises to reshape the landscape as we approach 2020.
