As a recent college graduate, Michael finds himself in a frustrating situation, navigating the mundane world of public transportation as he becomes the driver of the infamous “drunk bus” for a lively party school in Ohio. His dreams of becoming a photographer feel perpetually out of reach, serving as a daily reminder of his unrealized potential. Night after night, Michael is tasked with transporting rowdy students back to their dorms, all while the energetic pulse of endless parties reverberates through the town.

However, everything changes when a violent incident on the bus compels his boss to hire Pineapple Tangaroa, a striking figure with Maori face tattoos and numerous piercings, as his new security detail. Initially daunted by Pineapple’s formidable presence, Michael gradually discovers that this intimidating persona conceals a genuinely kind and insightful soul who has endured his own share of hardships. As they spend increasing amounts of time together, an unanticipated friendship develops, leading Michael to reflect on his life through Pineapple’s valuable wisdom.

Simultaneously, Michael must grapple with the emotional fallout from a painful breakup with Amy, his former girlfriend, who unexpectedly returns from New York to their college town. This adds layers of complexity to his emotional journey as he navigates his unresolved feelings for her while searching for his own identity.
